Cherry Springs State Park

Reviewed By oliveremily - Elkins Park, United States

We visited this Dark Sky park during the weekend before the new moon in July, and were treated to the rare and stunning view of a sky simply full of stars. The kids with us loved watching the stars pop out as the sky darkened, and they were able to see the Milky Way clearly. We stayed on the short term public viewing side of the park, and it was very, very busy. While we stayed near our car because of the kids, it would have been a much more peaceful experience to go up to the viewing area for a consistent experience of the dark sky without cars and trucks constantly coming and going.

Austin Dam Memorial Park

Reviewed By Bigamus - Boston, United States

The Austin Dam tragedy was an unexpected and sobering experience and well worth the time if you are in the area. The park provides you with enough background to understand what happened there that day in 1911, and it offers a nice open space to reflect on those events. The park is free although it relies on donations to maintain the area. I highly recommend this if you’re in the Pennsylvania Wilds.

Sinnemahoning State Park

Reviewed By SuzyAnnT

The visitor center is very kid friendly with some interactive activities and cool tunnel to crawl in. Also some informational stuff for kids involving animals and history of Sinnemahoning. Trails are stoned and nice to walk on, lots of nice overlooks and places to pull off to if you're in a car. Fishing is good and really nice picnic areas as well as a small park for kids. Passed a campground as well on the drive through the park road.
