Our guide, Steven Atterson, treated us to a wonderful day in Geithoorn and Hasselt. The trip gave us a new experience in the Netherlands, combined with interesting history and discussion along the way. He took us to a local restaurant, with the best pea soup I have ever had. The entirety of the day felt like a traditional and local Netherlands experience. Steven is knowledgeable and easy to be with for the day. I highly recommend him as your guide for any Netherlands tour you desire to take.

The entire day was an enlightening and enjoyable experience, after spending most of our trip in Amsterdam and other larger cities. Our driver was very knowledgeable and friendly, fitting a considerable amount of Dutch culture and history throughout the drive that we would never have learned ourselves. By taking a smaller passenger van instead of a tour bus, we were able to visit some smaller villages that would have otherwise been skipped for more touristy attractions. With perfect weather, venturing around the Dutch country side and small fishing villages made for a wonderful end to our trip.

We just had the best day with Hans Langh, our private tour guide here in Amsterdam. I had found him through TripAdvisor, and had seen many excellent reviews on him, so I jumped right on it and reserved. So happy that we did! He was super knowledgeable about the Amsterdam area and its history, as well as the North and South Holland areas, and Schermerhorn, where there are some stunning tulip fields. We like to avoid touristy areas, and go off the beaten path, and he knew just where to take us. We also went to Keukenhof, and although it was busy as expected, it was so with it because the flowers were so beautiful. Hans is the best. Really. You will love him.

4. Schiphol Layover Private Tour - Windmills, Countryside, Amsterdam!

Amsterdam Tulips Tour

This is a genuinely backroads tour, where the focus is on having a relaxed and engrossing day out, where we'll avoid tourist cliches and tourist traps. You'll explore (in car or minivan) the charming countryside area just to the north of Amsterdam known as Waterland. There you'll pass through three tiny rural villages and also stop at a dike bordering a lake where the guide will explain the eternal Dutch battle with water. You'll stop at the unspoiled harbour town of Monnickendam. This is one town over from Volendam - where all the big tour buses stop. No tourists in Monnickendam and it's gorgeous! We'll then drive to the Beemster and visit a Dutch family farm. Not a tourist farm, an actual working farm. We'll be the only tourists there and if they have time the farmers may come and chat for a bit (not guaranteed). After that we'll visit a working windmill from the 1600s and can have a picnic lunch there if you like. We can also include a bit of Amsterdam on the tour.

Inclusions: Private transportation, Guiding - Your charming guide Rory comes included!

Exclusions: Lunch, Coffee and/or Tea, Windmill Admission - €4pp (possibly a bit different in winter)

Rory, the guide, did a fantastic job. He was utterly professional in his communication in the run up to the tour and utterly charming on the day. The time flew by, he was very informative but not boring, and the conversational approach was just perfect. Bravo.

5. Winter Tulips & Windmill Private Tour

Amsterdam Tulips Tour

This is a genuinely backroads tour, where the focus is on having a relaxing and authentic day out in the country side where we avoid tourist traps and cliches. The tulips greenhouse we visit is not open to the public and Rory (the guide) happens to be friends with relatives of the owner. The windmill we visit, while open to the public, is not on the itinerary of any big tour companies and get very few tourists. It's run by local volunteers who're always happy to chat with my guests and really answer all their questions. We'll also pass through two lovely rural villages, stop in the larger town of Monnickendam, and generally take the road less traveled!

Inclusions: Private transportation, Guiding - your charming guide Rory is included!

Exclusions: Windmill admission of €15 total (for all your group), Tulips Greenhouse Visit - this costs €50 cash and you can pay it directly to the greenhouse owner., Coffee and/or Tea, Lunch
