I visited this winery numerous time when I was up north. My bucket list was to stay there for a few days, enjoy the wine and the peaceful surroundings. My wish was granted and I spent 3 days in their cozy guest house. Our stay was complete with a tasting of their fine wines and brandy. The accommodations were amazing and Angelique was fun and very knowedgable . Put this on your bucket list!!!

Topel Winery

At 1,400 feet of elevation, on the southern edge of Mendocino County’s Sanel Valley, Topel Winery and Estate sits above the Russian River and its fog lines. Duncan Peak is to the west of the estate, and is flanked by the Yorkville Highlands and Alexander Valley appellations, both to the south. The Estate has a total of 160-acres, with only 15 prime vineyard acres planted. The rest of this pristine land is left to nature; oaks, manzanitas, coyotes, hawks, and rattlesnakes add to its characteristic grandeur. Our varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petite Sirah.

Pet Friendly, Family Perfect (lots of space, and something for everyone) beautiful place. Wines are excellent and oils are a fun and interesting attraction. Ask for the tour, play on the train and feed the goats! Had a picnic under the oak trees.

Saracina Vineyards

Saracina was named after a centuries-old farmhouse and vineyards in Tuscany where owners John Fetzer and Patty Rock spent their honeymoon. The main ranch is home to Saracina Vineyards, a small-production, state-of-the art, California Certified Organic (CCOF) winery and the first wine caves in Mendocino County. Working with winemaker, Alex MacGregor, they produce stylistically unique wines with lush California fruit and silky, soft tannins. Atrea, their second brand, focuses on interesting, quirky Rhone-style blends. Home to the first wine caves in Mendocino County, California, Saracina Ranch is reminiscent of the rural character of Napa Valley 30 years ago. Located in the small town of Hopland, in the Upper Russian River area of Mendocino County, Saracina is a 600-acre property with 300 acres in vineyards. It features hillsides, groves of 110-year-old olive trees, pomegranate orchards, organic vegetable gardens, bee hives and a bee garden and four ponds that attract myriad bird and animal life. The vines are hand-tended and farmed organically or biodynamically to maintain the vigor of the plants.

Located just south of Hopland, this old hop kiln turned winery is pretty easy to see on the west side of Hwy 101. There's ample parking, an intimate tasting room, excellent wines, and friendly tasting staff. These boutique wines are more reasonably priced than some others in the area. After tasting and purchasing a few bottles of wine (tasting fee deducted from wine purchase), we headed to their covered picnic area to enjoy our packed picnic lunch. It was a wonderful stop-off during our stay in Hopland.
