10 Wineries & Vineyards in Colorado That You Shouldn't Miss

March 31, 2022 Darleen Reid

Colorado is home to no less than twenty-six ski resorts such as those in Vail and Breckenridge; other winter activities include snowboarding, sledding, sleigh rides, snow hiking and snowmobiling. The state is blessed with national parks, grasslands and forests where in warmer weather you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing. Wildlife abounds, from bears to moose and raccoons to wolverines. More interested in local history? Head for either the Ute Indian Museum or the Koshare Indian Museum, and don't miss the forts such as Fort Garland and Bent's Old Fort. For a complete change, why not take a ride in a hot air balloon from South Park Valley or Boulder and admire Colorado's picturesque landscape from above?

My boyfriend and I were driving through the area on the way to Grand Junction and stopped here for a wine tasting. We had an excellent experience with our host, Michael. He was very informative on the wines and the area around Palisade and we had a great time sitting outside and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The $10 wine tasting was very worth it as we got to keep the glass and an additional $5 was waived as we purchased 6 bottles of wine from them to take home for family and friends. Would highly recommend this place and to of course meet the vineyard french bulldog, Daryl!

As CA natives who live close to Napa, we are always appreciative of finding wineries on our travels. Just outside of Ft Collins is a little gem of a winery that we discovered by chance. We stopped by for a tasting & I loved their bubbly which you can simply purchase by the glass. For $12 you can taste 6 of their wines, while taking in the CO scenery from either their outdoor seating or when Covid is over, their cozy tasting room The friendly owner/winemaker was also our server.

Stopped in early afternoon for a bite before hiking. Food options while limited were delicious. Our party of 4 had 2 bowls of the potato leek soup with a basket of bread, 1 flat bread (with your choice of toppings) and 1 wedge salad with salmon. The food was great -- as was the presentation. We also had a few paddles of wine with a nice assortment. They have live entertainment on Saturday afternoons, but since we were pressed for time, we left before it started. Will definitely be returning.

Carlson Vineyards Winery & Tasting Room

While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.

Warm and welcoming staff. The owner/vintner even stopped at our table to visit even though it was a busy weekend afternoon. We loved the wines...bought a case of assorted types of wine. We were SO surprised to discover so many we liked at ONE place! We sat outside under the trees and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. Tastings were ample and the $8 tasting fee was waived when we bought 3 bottles. This place is our favorite winery in the area! Not pretentious. Great wines!

We stopped in for a tasting and wished we could have brought some bottles home with us! Snowy Peaks has a lot of different wines to choose from. We were seated outside and used dry-erase markers to mark our 5 choices on a menu. Our server brought all 5 samples out at once, each glass clearly marked as to which wine we had chosen. The samples were generous and the staff was so friendly. The wines were so good, and I even ordered a glass of Snowy Peaks Chardonnay at the restaurant we went to for dinner that night. Highly recommend you stop in for a tasting. You won't be disappointed!
