Texas Travel Information Center

This is a really nice building with very nice bathrooms. The hostess was very helpful and maps were just lying out for the taking. They have a nice brochure on Route 66 with historical information. I was mostly interested in a location to stop for lunch later on, but it was fun to follow along in the brochure during the drive. Looked like a nice spot for a picnic as well ... despite rattlesnake warnings. Heh!

Nacogdoches Visitor's Center

The Historic Town Center/Visitor Center, located on the square, was built in 1917 as the city’s post office and later served as the public library. In 1996, tourism left the umbrella of the Chamber of Commerce to start what is now the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. Here you can view exhibits of early Nacogdoches, watch the video on Nacogdoches and pick up additional literature on the town. Services are also available for small to medium size groups looking to bring meetings or event to the area. Restroom facilities are available.

This was one of the cleanest, friendliest, most personable visitor centers I have been in in awhile. The bathrooms were spotless, the complementary coffee was welcomed on a cold day, and all of the staff helped with fantastic suggestions for restaurants, places to see, and directions for places I was looking for. A special thank you to Ashley Morgan for answering so many questions with so much grace. Definitely a place I will visit again.

Steinbach Haus Visitors Center

The Steinbach Haus was originally built in Alsace, France between 1618 and 1648 by the Steinbach family. This house is built with pegs so that it is movable. The Steinbach family lived in the house until 1988 when they disassembled it, numbering the beams and putting them in storage. The fachwerk beams were shipped from France to Castroville, TX in 1998, as a gift to the people of Medina County. The Alsatian volunteers came to Castroville and put the house back together, decorating it with furniture that was donated by the Alsatian people and shipped over. Now it serves as a museum and a visitor center for everyone to enjoy.

Panther Junction Visitor Center

The park rangers were very helpful here, and we were able to purchase our back-country permits. I was so glad to find a gas station near the visitor center. Because the drive into Big Bend is so long, the gas station was a great find - and the gas prices were not the high-priced, gouging prices you'd expect at a solitary location.
