10 Tours in Koh Tao That You Shouldn't Miss

December 9, 2021 Joeann Galban

Drifting serenely in the Gulf of Thailand, the palm-fringed island of Ko Tao takes its name from the abundant sea turtles that reside on its shores. White sand beaches sheltered by steep hills – some only accessible with four-wheel drive vehicles – and 300 days of sun per year invite long afternoons of lounging.

Me and my friend joined another party of two for the cooking class which made it fun. Por was really friendly and explained everything in great detail, because we were two different parties we ended up doing four dishes which was very good of her. All of the food we cooked was tasty, plentiful and eye opening. We had a lot of fun and made the most of the rainy day here. Por then sends you on your way with photos from the day and all the recipes you would like. I would highly recommend doing this if you get chance.

• Explore the traditional old town of Koh Lanta and get a glimpse into local life Take a peaceful stroll into the mangrove forest at Tung Yee Peng village. • Visit the Tung Yee Peng Village, a small village on the East coast of Koh Lanta. The mangroves here are almost as big as the island. At the edge of the water, a bridge welcomes you and on the other side, there is a cement path going through the mangroves. Mangrove roots create a quiet and protected area for fishes, crabs, oysters, lobsters, and shrimps. • Take a longtail boat to explore mangrove areas and watching the variety of local fauna - colorful birds, mudskippers, fiddler crabs. Stop at the monkey point. You can see the monkeys and watch them swim and dive. • Visit Kantiang Beach and relax on the white sands or swim in the turquoise water and trek up to the viewpoint which gives you a beautiful panoramic of the coastline and lighthouse. Here is the perfect spot for a photo.

Simply exceptional, would highly reccomend! We did a lot of research into which dive school to use, and are very pleased we went with this one. This is a review for dive training... as of summer 2019, U&I no longer have a hostel or bar. U&I is run by a French man and his female Thai partner, who have been here for many years. On an island where many instructors are backpakers like us who have settled for a short time for money and fun, these are two enthusiastic professionals with a wealth of knowledge and and enthusiasm to help people. If you want to party hard and do the bare minimum of training then go elsewhere to one of the sausage factory schools, if you want high quality instruction with wonderful people then come here. Prices are fixed in Ko Tao, so you pay the same wherever, it's about what you get for your money. We looked at many other dive schools, and since doing our training we have seen those other schools in the water, and it can be scary and confusing how bad they are... Instructors with minimal experience, minimal training and minimal qualifications, leading the biggest groups possible. At U&I you will be taught by the company owners who are very passionate and highly qualified, in a group which is just your friends family. Most people doing open water training will get 4 open water dives for their 11,000 THB, we got 7, in a group of 2 rather than 4 or 8. If you are young travellers like us, don't be put off by the grey hair, Albert Einstein look, these guys love what they do and are as enthusiastic and fun as any gap year instructors... We enjoyed many evenings socialising with them. If you want the big group / party scene, or cheap accommodation then U&I can't really help, we went elsewhere in the evenings we wanted to party with other backpackers, and came here to learn. Was the right decision for us! Though they can't offer cheap accommodation, they show their generosity in other ways which more than makes up for saving 100THB a night on a hostel. It is advertised as a French speaking school, we can't speak French but had no problems at all, instruction is in eloquent English (with a fun accent). I reccomend in the strongest possible terms.

We Travel were exceptionally organised, welcoming and (most importantly for me) wonderful with my two young children. Caring and attentive and genuinely interested in showing the children all there was to see (safely) made this not only a brilliant day out but also very reassuring the children were totally welcomed and catered for. Food served all day (think Subway on demand) and 5 great sites to see. I highly recommend this trip however I must add, we visited during Covid crisis and there were only 6 people on the entire boat. What a treat.

Our driver was great. He was waiting for us on arrival, van was clean and modern, he had lots of local knowledge and was very accommodating. He took us to all the local highlights (we were off a cruise ship and had limited time) and more. Great way to see Koh Samui in a short time. Would definitely recommend Koh Samui Tour and Transportation. We travelled in January, 2020.
