Eco Quechua Lodge

Located in the high jungle, it offers a lovely and tranquil getaway. Like a jungle lodge in the Amazon, some windows are open to nature so that you feel like you're part of it all (beds have mosquito netting). There's just something about this place that makes my stress melt away as soon as I arrive. Let me stretch out in a hammock with a good book and one of their awesome pisco sours and I can spends days at a time here, forgetting the outside world even exists. The entire lodge uses natural materials, including wood, rock, and bamboo, and its newest rooms feature private bathrooms. Ever dreamed of living in a grown-up's treehouse? This is that dream come true. The owners and staff couldn't be friendlier and are genuinely interested in ensuring that you have everything you need and are having the best time possible. Make your reservation includes dinner as these are bound to be some of the tastiest that you will have in Peru-lunch can also be added and breakfast is always included. Massages can be booked with advance notice and an outdoor Jacuzzi is currently in the works. The nearby Colcamayo hot springs are actually much nicer as well as hotter than those in Aguas Calientes, the town right below Machu Picchu, despite it being named after the springs. You are much better off getting your fill of the soothing waters here. Other outings that can be arranged through the lodge are zip-lining, a tour of a coffee plantation, and a hike to Llactapata, an Inca site from which you may catch a glimpse of Machu Picchu. If you're a coffee lover, the coffee plantation tour is highly recommended, mostly so that you can buy one of the world's best coffees, organic and grown here in the high jungle. To get here does require a bit of planning but don't let that keep you away. If it was any easier, there would be hordes and then you wouldn't want to go! Basically, you can either take the train or a bus. To take the train, you will need to get a ticket first to Aguas Calientes and from there to Hidroelectrica. At this point, you cannot buy tickets for the second leg until you get to Aguas Calientes so, if you are coming direct from Cusco or the Sacred Valley (recommended) be prepared to get off and have a cup of coffee until your next train leaves. From Ollantaytambo, the trip to Aguas Calientes takes about 1.5 hours and from Aguas to Hidroelectrica, about 30 minutes. The downside to taking the train is that it can be expensive and there are only a few trains per day between Aguas Calientes and Hidroelectrica. For this reason, you can't just go from the lodge to Machu Picchu and back in one day. On the other hand, if you're up for a hike, it's about a two-hour walk from Hidroelectrica to Aguas Calientes and it's a flat, easy trip. Taking the bus from Cusco is infinitely cheaper but will require a bit more investment in time. You will take the bus to Quillabamba but get off at Santa Maria. From there, you can get a shared car to Hidroelectrica and get off at the EcoQuechua Lodge. The entire trip will take between six and seven hours. Spend a couple of nights at the lodge, walk to Aguas Calientes, spend a night there, and then visit Machu Picchu first thing the next morning. You can then do the trip in reverse or take the train back.

Parwa Guest House

Exceedingly comfortable, beautiful rooms, great service, great value for money. Highly recommended!

Reviewed By amandahJ9976TX

My husband and I stayed at the Parwa Guesthouse in Ollantaytambo for 3 nights. 1 night on the way to Aguas Calientes and 2 nights on the way back to Cusco. We choose the Parwa Guesthouse because of the great reviews and we were very glad we did. Jorge, the Manager was exceedingly warm, friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Beds were very comfortable and we slept very well. Jorge had sent a great guide/driver to meet us at Cusco Airport (Mauricio), and we made a few stops along the way in the Sacred Valley before arriving at the guesthouse which was great. The photos do not do the wonderful rooms justice. There is a small charming garden out back. The breakfast was good. Parwa was only a 2 minute walk to the main square in Ollantaytambo. Jorge gave great recommendations on where to eat. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the experience. Thank you again to the team at the Parwa Guesthouse! p.s. We left out suitcases at Parwa whilst we went to Machu Picchu.

Las Qolqas Eco Resort

Our sutainable resort is ideally located in the valley of the Patacancha River, two kilometers from Ollantaytambo. We are at walking distance from the millenary pre-Inca fortresses of Pumamarca and Ollantaytambo. We offer free shuttle transportation to and from Ollantaytambo and its train station all day long.

Peaceful luxury, I would stay again!

Reviewed By jennyersbak

The setting for Las Qolqas is really something spectacular. Nestled against the mountains and next to the Patacancha River, you are immersed in nature from the start. My husband and I spent 2 nights here with our 4-year old in May and the weather was great -- sunny, warm days and chilly nights (perfect excuse to light up the stove fireplace). The tents/rooms are nicely situated and the elements of luxury are thoughtful and never felt pretentious, which I loved. The staff is very friendly and helpful and even invited me to borrow books about Peru and the local culture, which they have available in the lobby. Our nightly Te Piteado with pisco was a real treat! Our daughter loved to explore the hotel grounds, complete with a little water canal and herb garden. I will definitely recommend to friends and family.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR PERU TRIP!

After traveling around the countryside we checked into this lovely hotel I booked online. Our group of 2 couples jaws all dropped. It is a floral oasis with incredible flowers and birds. We looked at each other and immediately felt like we had come home. The family that owns the property treat their guests like extended family. They are a caring couple who love their home, flowers and their community. They have lived in the home (just a very short walk from the plaza) for generations and know everything about Ollantaytambo and the neighboring villages. They gave us suggestions that took us to tiny local villages and explained all about the ruins which we could view from our upstairs room. When we climbed the mountain to the ruins, we waved at them and they waved back. When we said our water was not hot, they immediately turned on the pump and we had hot water. When we said we would like breakfast the next morning a full hot breakfast made to order when we appeared in the dining room. Leo and his family could not have been kinder or served us better. We look forward to returning to Ollantaytambo and spending more time with our new found family.

Tunupa Lodge

Tunupa Lodge is an elegant, luxurious hotel located about 3 minutes walk from the train station to Machu Picchu, a perfect stopover when traveling from Cusco to Machu Picchu. We are centrally located within the town of Ollantaytambo, making our hotel an ideal place to explore the town and the Sacred Valley, or to start your journey on the Inca Trail. Our peaceful, gorgeous grounds and first-class services will ensure that your stay in Ollantaytambo will be unforgettable. Tunupa Lodge is perfectly situated to enjoy a stunning panaromic view of the ceremonial Incan fortress of Ollantaytambo, the ruins of Pinkuylluna, the glaciered Mt. Veronica, Incan terraces and the surrounding mountains. The hotel occupies a 5000 m2 plot of land that includes spacious lawns, gardens, Incan terraces and a convenient parking area. The premises is pleasantly separated from the traffic — it’s almost possible to hear the sun set over the glacier.

Fantastic, almost 5 out of 5

Stayed here for 1 night as part of an Intrepid tour. This place is amazing, comfortable beds, proper towels, great shower, had an amazing view and vibe and overall was amazing. The hotel had no TV but that didn't matter as wifi could help this and you don't just go to a hotel for the TV. The only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 out of 5 is the lack of a room safe, this added with the fact that you had to properly lock the door made me not give this a 5. Overall, highly recommended.

Sweet little mountain getaway

Reviewed By danarhakos

It was such a sweet little place tucked into the streets of Ollantaytambo. The main square is about a 10 minute walk away. Hostel like living with a private room and private bathroom. Right outside you overlook the mountains as well as enjoying a beautiful broke and the sounds it has to offer. We even left at 5 AM one day and there was a packed breakfast for us before we left! Lovely organic breakfast for as soon as we woke up, attentive service & welcoming stay overall.

Amazing stay

Loved my stay with Paulino and his wife and really wish I’d been able to stay longer. The garden is amazing and you can have your breakfast with hummingbirds smelling all the lovely flowers. They are so welcoming as hosts and speak good English. They also made me a lovely dinner of chicken and rice with fruit from their garden as dessert. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable and for 40 soles a night amazing value! The only thing I’d suggest as an improvement would be to add blinds in the bedroom as it was very light in the morning but this is minor. If you get the chance and you’re going to Urubamba - go stay at the Eco Lodge!!

Nice stay

Reviewed By whugirl

The hotel is right next to the station so you can hear the trains but there is a nice view from the room, which had a balcony. Staff were friendly and room comfortable. My only criticism, as with other hotels on our trip, is the lack of a lift. I dread to think what happens if a disabled or even elderly person shows up and is expected to climb to the fifth floor. But overall a good place to stay in a lovely little town.

Wayras Hostal

Small, cold and unimpressive.

Reviewed By ddarche

The lobby has a slight scent of wet dog. The rooms are small and cold. The hot water did not last long. The Wi-Fi was slow and intermittent. There is a pregnant cat roaming the premises that meows loudly outside the rooms at all hours. We tried to sit outside on the patio, but the cat would not leave us alone The windows cannot be closed, so bugs freely enter into the room. There’s a sticker on the window saying they accept Visa, but they only except cash. The street outside has packs of dogs roaming around everywhere. They sometimes bark at pedestrians but we never saw one attack anyone. The proprietors don’t speak very good English, but we were generally able to communicate. They lock the front door at night, and there is no way to get out, so hopefully there is no need to leave. On the plus side, the rooms are cheap and the train is a very short walk. They also made us a box breakfast for the train ride. They also stored our luggage when we went to Machu Picchu. Frankly, I’m a bit befuddled by all the other good reviews, but I double checked and confirmed that I am rating the correct hotel.

The customer service was very good. I was picked up form the train station and got some useful tips. The room was good. Only complaint for me is that there was hot water in the shower for only 1 minute. It was also a bit chilly in the room.
