The experience was beyond our expectations, we were wowed by almost everything and everyone?. Most of the tents have breathtaking views of Talek River, the sounds of the river sings lullaby to you and the hippos offers the wake up call to you. The standards on food, house keeping, game drives and the rest of the amenities are just perfect, we are already looking forward to sending our guests your way to experience the same. Special thanks to Mr Kevin Achungo and his team for the incredible pampering (can't forget to mention Geofrey and his team at Mara Explorer, Simon the guide, Mary, Duncan among others)...amazing team. The Bush breakfast was just amazing! We highly recommend Mara Intrepids and Mara Explorer, already looking forward to our next stay.

Makumu Private Game Lodge

AN UNFORGETTABLE AFRICAN ADVENTURE IN COMPLETE PRIVACY... In the Xitsonga language, the word “Makumu” refers to an intangible explanation of an open space, an uncluttered lookout over distant horizons, or an endless view. The breathtaking views and location of the lodge complement a deeply inspiring sense of space and place, leaving visitors rejuvenated with the ancient spirit of African wilderness. The ‘Big Five’ Klaserie Private Nature Reserve is one of the largest privately owned nature reserves in South Africa, covering some 60 000 hectares and forming part of the greater Kruger National Park. Makumu Private Game Lodge is an intimate oasis in this vast wilderness, surrounded by the harshness, unpredictability and unspoiled appeal of the African bushveld. Six luxurious and beautifully appointed suites, accommodating a maximum of twelve guests, ensure an exclusive blend of absolute comfort, style and privacy.

A truly magical experience

Thanks so much to Cherie, AD, Shelley and Ruan for making our first safari a trip of a lifetime! The lodge was built by the owner for his family and has a really nice family vibe with brunch, afternoon tea and dinner eaten together with other guests, we got to meet other people from all over the world! As well as listening to lions, hyenas and monkeys in the bush whilst we were eating outside! Our Ranger, AD was fantastic and very knowledgable. We spotted the Big Five and so much more, and he made such a big effort to make sure we tracked down the animals we wanted to see. Since the Klaserie is shared with just a few other lodges, the safari was very tranquil and did not feel commercial at all. We were able to track down animals and would only see another 1-3 cars throughout the whole game drive. We were torn between a 3 and a 4 night stay. So glad we went with 4 nights and we could have stayed for so much longer! The whole team is very hospitable and we loved hearing their stories from the bush!

The lodge manager Hardus is such a character and keeps you entertained, he is also exceptionally knowledgable and accommodating. I would strongly recommend Muweti for your next bush adventure.

Great but standard

If you are coming to the Serengeti and staying at the Four Seasons, you are probably looking for a Four Seasons experience, which this property certainly delivers. It's a standard luxury experience - spacious rooms, American-ized food, and good service. If you are looking for a truly once-in-lifetime experience, I would recommend staying at a boutique or tented camp experience. Rooms at the Four Seasons are very comfortable and the view of the plains from each room is incredible. We saw lions, zebra, warthogs, and baboons straight from our window - incredible. Hard to say if the location is good or not since the Serengeti is so large and you will spend lots of time driving on any game drive. Food and service were what you would expect. The one thing I always dislike at hotels like this is the tipping culture. It's very unclear how tips should be handled and it makes every interaction with staff feel transactional. I'm in the middle of the Serengeti - I didn't bring a ton of small dollar bills with me and I don't want to think about tipping for service every minute of my stay. The hotel should just clarify upfront that you can tip en masse at the end or just include tips in the cost of staying. If you're looking for a familiar, luxury experience, this is great. If you want something unique or with more local culture, you can do better.

We had a truly wonderful time at Elephant Plains. From the airport pickup, to the game drives, food, and lodging, we never had a stressful moment. Dylan was an exceptionally knowledgeable guide who always listened and made sure to check in on everyone during the game drives. The food was delicious, and I can't think of a single complaint about our luxurious lodging. Overall, highly recommend for anyone wanting a safari - we saw every animal imaginable in our 2.5 days there.

Luxury safari experience

Our experience at Simbavati was top-notch! This place is so luxurious, and we had a wonderful vacation. We saw the big five on our game drives, and the scenery was so stunning. The lodge is positioned at the bottom of a hill with a watering hole, and we also regularly saw animals in and around camp, including an entire herd of elephants who came to drink water and then wander through camp during breakfast one morning. It was an experience like none other! The food was amazing as was the service by all of the staff, but particularly by our butler, Ralph. They go above and beyond to take care of their guests with new surprises each day. They even arranged a private boma dinner for our family to celebrate my upcoming birthday. We absolutely loved our time at Simbavati!

Great camp yo visit.

This was a great camp. We would probably give it a 4 1/2 instead of 5 if that was offered. The only draw back from the lodge was the quality of the food. We felt it could have been a little better but was a minor issue. We were treated very well by the entire staff. Our guide was great and we had some great animal viewing. On our back deck we were able to view animals including elephants about 50 yards away. We also woke up one morning to a hippo on the front lawn. The room was nice with a great shower. I would not hesitate to go to this camp again.

Favorite Place in Tanzania

We just spent two weeks in Tanzania and our four days at Matemwe were our favorite. The rooms were super clean, spacious, and with spectacular views. The meals were amazing (dinner on the beach, bbq buffet, superb fresh fish and fruit...). The snorkeling was perhaps the best I have experienced and swimming with a pod of 18 dolphins is something we will all remember forever. But what made the visit were the people. The staff was unbelievably attentive and kind. We were so sad to leave!

Incredible Safari with Ololo Safaris

Reviewed By agustinab757

I wanted a trip of a lifetime, one I will tell my grandchildren about, and this is exactly what I got. It was fantastic and more than I would have ever imagined. The beauty of Kenya, the scenery, the game drives with the most knowledgeable and friendliest guide, the destinations, and the excellent organization by brothers, Charley and Jim, and Ololo safaris' founders. My trip started at Ololo lodge, a hidden gem just outside of Nairobi National Park, with the friendliest staff, amazing views and most delicious food!. I then travelled to Amboselli for 2 nights where I spent most of my days with large herds of elephant ?. My guide, Simon, was so knowledgeable and insightful, not only about the wildlife but also about the history, politics and life in Kenya in general. The camps I stayed at were incredible and were exactly what I was looking for - a diverse variety of wildlife and also unique experiences I had not even thought about. For example, whilst at Watamu on the coast, I went on a kayak safari through the mangroves and also had an incredible time snorkeling the watamu reef! Special mention must go to my local guide, Kingi, who had a true passion for his work and the the natural environment. I highly recommend not only staying at Ololo lodge but also arranging a safari with Ololo Safaris. As I have been on safari a few times now in Kenya and this personal insight and connections they have from living here really made a noticeable difference in my experiences. This trip will certainly not be my last and I cant wait to explore more of Kenya with the help of Ololo safaris team. These photos are just a glimpse of my favorite moments! ?
