La Barbarie

Reviewed By peterkT9762ZL

For many years now, La Barbarie has been the only place I will stay on Guernsey. I love the island, having lived there as a child and returning most years -- often with various friends and family in tow. Everyone I have taken there has been surprised at the beauty and tranquility it is still possible to find in its little leafy lanes, cliff paths, and inviting beaches. There are many reasons to choose La Barbarie. First you will receive a genuinely friendly and warm welcome. You are made to feel at home. You will find the service efficient and friendly, the rooms are comfortable and very clean. The restaurant is excellent and much loved by locals, and the generous breakfasts are an excellent foundation for your day of exploration, such as walking on the nearby cliffs. The hotel's location is exceptional. The beautiful Icart point, just ten minutes walk away down narrow country lanes, gives you a stunning panorama of of the cliffs and sea, and it is a starting point for stunning cliff path walks along the southern coast. The local beaches: Saints Bay, Moulin Huet or Petit Bôt offer great swimming in beautiful clear water, snorkelling and sunbathing. There is a very handy bus stop on the little lane immediately outside, which will take you to into St Peter Port or off for further explorations if you opted not to bring a car. La Barbarie is not for you if you want a raucous time with banging music. But if you want an escape that feeds your soul, offers great food, creature comforts and a gorgeous location, then this is for you.

Hit by Covid and Brexit

Reviewed By Arundel4

I have stayed in this hotel several times before and it has always been excellent. As all hotels they have had to adapt to the challenges of Brexit and Covid and on the whole seem to be managing well. Sadly not quite enough staff and some minor updating could have been done during lock down ready for re opening. If the pool was cleaned and covered at the end of the summer that would make a great different to overall appearance as it looks very scruffy now. Well done all the staff who were working, we had a most enjoyable stay. On a point of Covid recommendations, a secured to the floor hand sanitising suit at the entrance would be good and another going into the dining area. A few half full mucky bottles lying around did not give confidence. The secured ones are very attractive long stainless steel poles with a container on the top and are foot operated. Totally safe.

Les Douvres Hotel

Les Douvres Hotel, Guernsey is a former 18th century Manor House ideally situated in the quiet St Martins Parish, in the South East corner of the island, and referred to by many visitors as the most beautiful part of Guernsey. Les Douvres Hotel is set in its own Private Grounds and is an ideal position for exploring the magnificent Guernsey South Coast Bays and cliffs walks, with views extending as far as the nearby French Coast, with the Channel Islands of Herm, Jethou and Sark in the foreground.Saints Bay, with its tiny Fishing Harbour is close by and the main town and capital of St. Peter Port, Guernsey is within ten minutes drive by car (approximately 2.5. miles). An excellent bus service passes the Hotel at regular intervals. Children are most welcome and family rooms are available. Despite extensive building works and refurbishments the Hotel's"Olde Worlde" character has been carefully retained. We are now the first Hotel or Business in Guernsey to provide an electric charging port for cars. This facility is free for all hotel guests to use.

Lovely hotel, first class team

Reviewed By nicolette h

Les Douvres has nice bedrooms, it is very clean, all of the staff are friendly, polite and lots are very cheerful. It is in a lovely area and a good location to stay for a visit to beautiful Guernsey. The measure of a good hotel or service is how they deal with any issue that may crop up. We had a problem, they dealt with it politely, swiftly and in a fair way. I would be very confident to come back and stay again and I would highly recommend Les Douvres as somewhere to stay on Guernsey.

A little Gem

Reviewed By SteveQ356

How to describe the Queens, a little gem! The property is clean, tidy and homely. From the staff in the bar Jack and Elvis (yes his real name)to Marianne the lady cleaner all very friendly and helpful. Jonathon and his wife are very much hands on and can be found serving breakfast and then behind the bar at night. Food was really good and plentiful, but I would recommend booking in advance especially for lunch which always seemed to be busy. There was some noise on Friday and Saturday night but this is a pub, it was never excessive or continued late into the night. Getting round the island has a few problems as there is a shortage of taxis especially at night but the bus stops outside the church opposite that goes into town. A bargain fee of £1.25p for the trip which means you can go anywhere you like on the island for the same price. Overall we really enjoyed are stay here and will be back

A Peaceful Week

Reviewed By Z7808FFjohnm

We stayed in a beautifully equipped and furnished cottage, although we were only 2 there was plenty of space and equipment for 4. The cottage was well-prepared for us and ready even though we were a little early. The complex is very well equipped for all with a well-stocked library of books, DVDs, games etc including items suitable for children. There was also a large playing field. Fiona and her staff were very welcoming and helpful. The cottages are very close to well-stocked supermarkets, bakery etc. The cottages are ideally placed for exploring the island by foot as the coastal path is only a matter of minutes away and the famous Guernsey bus service has a stop close by providing services into town and to the western end of the island. There is an hourly bus service into town taking a scenic route that stops almost outside the front door. A true haven of peace and tranquillity and made our week in Guernsey so very enjoyable.

The Captain's

The Captains is best described as an Inn with Rooms. We are ideally situated between the Airport and St Peter Port, 5 mins walk from the beautiful cliff paths of the South Coast , a 20/30 minute walk from St Peter Port, although there is a regular bus service and a bus stop immediately outside the Captains. The Captains enjoys a very busy bar with a good following of local customers and in season attracts those holiday makers who enjoy a pint of Real Ale or similar. The Bistro at the Captains has a wide selection of food available, Local Lobster, Crab and Fresh Fish, caught daily by local fisherman or supplied by Seafresh our preferred supplier of fresh fish and seafood, ideally situated at the fish quay in St Peter Port. Pizza, Steaks, Pasta snacks, menu for children and delicious Roasts on Sundays. Probably one of the unique selling points at the Captains is that we do not charge a single supplement, our rate is the same all year round enabling customers to see at a glance the cost of a visit with us.
