We stayed here 9/6/22 in a family room because it was our sons passing out parade 10th of June at Helles barracks. The room was immaculate, beds so comfy, welcoming staff on reception at the evening we arrived and morning. We couldn't thank the manager June for escorting us in 2 trips to the barracks as we couldn't get a taxi and the receptionist even tried with different companies. Thank you June the manager and team for excellent customer service, we would recommend to anyone to stay, thank you again. Jane (liverpool)

Wonderful stay

We stayed in the Manor suite for one night. The host was excellent, ringing prior to our 4pm arrival to let us know our room was available earlier if we preferred. Very easy to access and no road noise whatsoever from the A66. There were hand made chocolates, as well as cake and shortbread in the room, a lovely welcoming touch. The suite itself was huge, very comfortable and beautifully decorated, totally suited to the age of the manor. Lovely gardens too where we sat in the sun late afternoon. The room has a mini fridge stocked with prosecco and champagne which you purchase, tea, coffee machine, and downstairs had a range of alcohol and wine in the honesty bar. The shower is above the deep, roll top copper bath with curtain surrounding, something to be aware of for some. The breakfast was fantastic, locally sourced produce, one of the best breakfast experiences we’ve had in a hotel. One night wasn’t long enough!

The King's Head Hotel

Built as gentleman’s townhouse in 1717 The Kings Head’s fine Georgian architecture blends with modern practicalities to give warm and comfortable surroundings and a relaxed ambience. The rooms to the front of the hotel are typically large and many of the building’s Georgian features have been retained including the ballroom where Franz Liszt gave a piano recital in 1841. Richmond itself with its wynds and streets offers many attractions including a Norman castle an imposing sight above the banks of the river Swale and the ruins of Easby Abbey. Richmond has many beautiful walks including riverside, woodland and the remains of the Georgian racecourse. Catterick racecourse and Croft Motor racing circuit are nearby and a further 7 racecourses are within an hour’s drive from the Kings head making it a perfect base for leisure visits.

Afternoon tea

Reviewed By samandgary3

We didn't actually stop at the hotel as we live local, my review is in respect of the afternoon tea. We have had afternoon tea at the Kings Head previously and we were seriously underwhelmed, it wasn't good at all. Our experience yesterday was very much improved and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sandwiches, cakes and scones were all lovely and tea was constantly topped up. It is clear that things have greatly improved in the Kings Head!

The Frenchgate Restaurant & Hotel

The quality of food and menus at the Frenchgate reflect the passion and enthusiasm of the staff. Care is taken to source ingredients locally wherever possible and all our food is all prepared to order. Start with a selection of homemade breads, starters of hand dived scallops, Whitby white crab or carpaccio of local beef, then maybe a loin of Yorkshire lamb together with a confit of shoulder, a fillet of pan roasted halibut cooked to perfection, local game or one of our delicious vegetarian options. Our bar and wine lists match the quality and value of our food. Choose from our superb house recommendations or unique “wine flight” to classic and unusual new world offerings. As well as a range of fine spirits and liqueurs befitting the independent and non corporate feel of The Frenchgate, you can also enjoy a range of both local bottle conditioned ales, and imported beers from around the world.

Stayed while visiting a local town with my mother, live wires exposed from the ceiling, loud and smelly maceration loo and no word of a lie, you could of done serious damage had you hit someone with the god knows how old Crossaint that was left out for breakfast, honestly it was like a brick. The orange juice was also left in the sunlight and tasted awful. The only reason it got 2 stars, was the fact the gent that checked us in was reasonably pleasant!
