The most amazing location

I stayed in room 2 at El Delfin for 5 nights mid-January and I had the most amazing time. The hotel is right on the black sand beach of Monterrico. My private room was good size with separate EC and shower room. There were no luxury items in the room, but I wasn’t looking for that - I got a clean, functional and safe place right in the centre of this small and friendly town. Monterrico is not a place to go to if you’re looking for an active holiday. Time passes quietly, there is always siesta time somewhere, a perfect place to pass the time with book in one hand and beer/cocktail in the other. The hotel bar and restaurant serves great food and drinks from early morning until 10pm, huge portions. Waiters and bartenders are attentive, friendly and very polite. There is a system in place where everything is recorded on the room and I could pay into it when I wanted, very good value. On the weekend they had a live local band. There is a pool which I didn’t actually use because it seemed more of a family play area. Other activities included table tennis, bicycle rental and my favourite - falling asleep in my own private hammock. Reception arranged a sailing trip in the mangroves. I enjoyed Monterrico so much that I’m going back next year and I can’t wait to stay at El Delfin again.

hi 1 year ago I booked and prepaid the hotel and due to COVID19 the trip was canceled and the hotel owner sent the email confirmation that in the period from April 8, 2020 to April 30, 2021 I can book the room without additional fees and payments. In march 2021 I sent a couple of emails to the owner to reschedule this period or book the room, askes for a refund and got no responses. DO NOT BOOK THE ROOMS - they will charge you and you are getting no chance for the trip.

All our 16 rooms have air condition, TV and of course private bath. Free parking and high speed WiFi is also included. The large pool, 20 x 7 meters, was totally renewed in May 2012. Since 2014 we also have a small pool for the youngest kids, only 35 cm deep. The colorful, lush gardens, with lots of different flowers, plants, fruit trees and different palm trees, where you always can find shadow and a hammock to rest in, make all the area of the hotel fresh even when it´s a really hot day. The tranquility that our hotel offers give you the opportunity to escape from the daily stress. We have a generator that guarantees you that the a/c etc. is working even when the power is out. Breakfast is included in our rates.

Cafe Del Sol Hotel

This is the best place in Monte Rico if you want to be on the beach and close to the center of the village (300m). Our guests appreciate a friendly and helpful service and great food. Our restaurant won several gastronomic prizes. The restaurant is right on the beach and from here you can enjoy sunsets almost every day (August to April) and sun rises too (Nov - Feb). Our rooms are clean (!) and comfortable although not luxurious. Some have a/c, all the rest ventilators. Besides double rooms we have rooms with 3, 4 or 5 beds. Internet 1.25 US per hour in reception area.

I stayed here for 4 days and loved it. Place was quiet with not a lot of guests. I stayed Monday-Thursday. Pool is lovely with plenty of sun. Pool bar wasn’t open when I was there so it was quiet as well. Lots of hammocks. Their bar is right on the beach with amazing views. The staff spoke English if you cannot speak Spanish. Montericco itself is a charming village. Room was spacious for what I needed. My room didn’t have A/C but the fan was sufficient. Bed was comfy and I had wifi nearly everywhere on the property. I had zero complaints and highly recommend this place if you’re in Montericco. Not much of a nightlife in the town after 9pm during the week. But I enjoyed that as well. It’s all about what you want out of your stay. Thanks!

Dos Mundos Pacifico

“Luxury” hotel in Monterrico

Reviewed By Midland98

We rented two bungalows for two nights in November 2021. This is one of the most expensive places to stay in Monterrico and it is a beautiful property but we did find some shortcomings. Room 8 had a good A/C unit and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was less than expected for the price. There were electric shower heads installed but no longer functioning. Cool shower in the morning but the drain was very slow and the water surrounded my feet quickly. The second night revealed several peeping guests hiding in the thatched roof. Feces from the visitors were found on one of the beds and on top of the room safe in the morning. Room 9 was occupied by my two adult children and our two grandchildren. Pretty much the same set up as room 8 except they also enjoyed a bat flying in the room and several loud peeping guests somewhere in the thatched roof. Feces were found in several places by morning. The beds had only sheets and no blankets. The room phone was also missing. The front desk was notified about the bat and feces on the beds. Someone came to look but did not even remove the droppings. It was not until checkout that they realized that blankets were even provided. No compassion from front desk staff for sure. The beach area was fairly filthy with garbage strewn about. We have stayed at other properties in Monterrico where the beach area was cleaned up by hotel staff in the mornings. Perhaps Dos Mundos could learn from their competitors. The food was mediocre for the price but I did enjoy their Italian entrees. The drinks from the bar seemed to contain very little alcohol. Beer is your best bet here. The pools were very nice but we discovered broken glass under one of the tables in the morning just minutes before my barefoot grandchildren showed up. Will probably stay somewhere else next time we make our way there.

Like Living on the Set From "Gilligan's Island" (but without those annoying Howells)!

Reviewed By GeoNerd68

We visited their lovely restaurant for lunch and IMMEDIATELY canceled our reservations in the loud concrete bunker of a hotel down the street. Lovely little cabanas interspersed with beautiful plants and mature coconut palms. Being on the less crowded end of the beach it was "muy tranquilo" and a nice family place with two pools (one for kids/parents, another for adults). The Italian food with a seafood flair was good and filling. As for the heat in the rooms, just going to bed under the fan after a nice swim at about 10 pm did the trick, as the sea breeze kicks in about that time to cool things down. Magdalena and her staff were always helpful and gracious (love the agua frescas de jamaica) and be sure to ask for a mangrove tour with the fabulous Elias. As the only English speakers on a busy weekend I can only say the Latinos know how to really relax, and this place has a hammock on every porch! Falling asleep while listening to the boom of the surf will probably be one of our favorite memories of our Guatemala vacation. :)
