Nice looking hotel on the surface

Reviewed By 161rhyse

We were very much looking forward to this holiday after seeing the hotel pictures and recent reviews. Unfortunately, this joy and holiday excitement went rapidly downhill on arrival at the hotel. We arrived past 10pm due to delayed flight (not hotel fault but all too familiar at the moment). There were only 2 staff at reception and, although very polite and professional, took ages with every check-in giving every detail rather than just take basic details and move on. We missed the evening meal and as there were no snacks available and following a 7 hour journey, including delays and transfers, we had no choice but to use the upstairs restaurant (not included in the half board package). The order was 1 slouvaki (1 skewer of pork) with a salad dressing, a small moussaka and 2 medium glasses of house white set us back €35. Then we got to the "Deluxe" room with sea view! Well, you couldn't deny you could see the sea. That's when you cast your eye to the right as straight ahead was a building site, with the noises associated including tree cutting, and to the left was the road which then swept across the whole hotel. Traffic noise was something we were trying to get away from on our holiday. Oh and there was a distinct smell of sewage as I assumed the sewage tank was directly below but I can't guarantee that is what it was. To be fair to the supervisor, George, did what he could to move us 48 hours later into an identical room on the top floor and in the next block across. This lessened the traffic, moved away from the smell and had a better view. Thank you George. Food - I'm not going to waste my or your time with detail but get there early or you will need to stand up by a full dirty table while you wait for one of the very few staff to clear it and reset. You will then need to play the game of anticipate the new food tray arrival or make do with luke warm to virtually cold food. The only hot thing at breakfast is the coffee and at dinner is the soup. Bar - there is no All Inclusive option and they definitely capitalise on the fact that the nearest bars are a 15-20 minute walk away. If you drink take plenty of money. Local draught beer €7, Sml to Med wine €5. 2 x Baileys €15. Whisky etc €€€. Entertainment - 2 nights only (same act) Service - you would think it was the end of season, rather than the beginning. No smile, no pleasantries, just "what do you want and how are you going to pay". Pay cash and watch for the snatch from your hand. Pay to your room and you had better keep your eye on the total as it shoots up VERY quickly. Positives - such a lovely island with nice beaches and a great pool area of the hotel with fantastic views. BBQ night was nice and had a couple playing Greek tunes Tip - if you want white wine, buy the €17 bottle.

We were so impressed with the island , the area and the hotel. 10 minute walk to one of the best beaches we have visited, with more quiet beaches still within walking distance through a shaded forest. The hotel was clean, friendly and everything we asked for could be accommodated for. Breakfast was great with plenty of variety and re-stocked quickly, rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and nothing was too much trouble. Mario and Apollo were great hosts and answered any questions about the area and travelling around the island. The numbered bus route makes travel around the island very easy and the water taxi back to koukounaries beach quite memorable. Lovely holiday which I am sure we will repeat!! Y Yeasy and the I’ll

Mixed feelings

Overall we had a lovely holiday in Skiathos in August and were lucky to get away this year. This accommodation has good and bad points as I will try to explain. The location is fantastic, a short walk to the beach (koukounaries) and a little further walk to other quieter beaches (mandraki) It is also near to really nice places to eat and drink. There is a regular bus goes past the studios that will take you to other villages and Skiathos town - well worth exploring. The bar sells a limited selection of food and drinks, very good greek salad. The studio room is very basic, probably more basic than I anticipated. Its not really equipped for self catering unless you get inventive with a a frying pan ie - toasties, eggs etc. I was surprised there was no toaster. The air con worked well and was needed (chargeable). There is a safe available to hire also. The bathroom is basic however the hot water was plentiful and decent pressure so can't complain about that. After many hotel and self catering stays I think the 2 things that really make a difference to our enjoyment is a decent shower and a good bed. Unfortunately the bed was shockingly bad, I could feel every spring in the thin mattress and the mattress protector was plastic and crinkled and crunched like a crisp packet when turning over. We stayed a night in Skiathos town for a treat and a decent bed for the night. I did mention it to the Jet2 rep but he didn't seem interested. The owner was a little chilly and not that friendly in all honesty, the younger male staff behind the bar was more welcoming. Next time we visit Skiathos we will pick a different area to stay in.

Mandraki Village Boutique Hotel

Plunging into the woods and from there, into the heart of the sea - a relaxing holiday in the Greek islands. Walking through the Koukounaries beach and parklands, 200 metres from the hotel, is a memorable experience. Some other beautiful beaches on the northern part of Skiathos Island, Greece, are the beaches of Mandraki and Elia’s, after which we have named this Skiathos luxury boutique hotel and restaurant.

Lovely boutique hotel, amazing breakfast!

Very stylish and comfortable hotel, lovely gardens and pool area. Koukanaries beach a short walk away and also a selection of good quality tavernas. Was slightly disappointed with the view from our room (306) which was supposed to be a garden view but looked out onto another building and only a bit of garden. Room very comfortable but expected it to be a bit bigger. Lovely spa type toiletries and slippers provided. The breakfast was truly amazing with everything to help yourself to, no other hotels compared!

A great place to stay. Nice and clean small villa in a quiet, green area.

Reviewed By Maria P

The villa in which we stayed is situated in a nice garden with citrus trees, oleanders and roses, it has three twin bed studios with large balconies. The balconies face south-east, you mainly have sun in the morning, afterwards there isn't too much sun. However in the middle of the summer I suppose the air conditioning (for which you have to pay extra) is a must, as in the afternoon it turns quite hot. At the end of May - beginning of June it wasn't necessary though. The kitchen has a small electric oven with two hobs, toaster, kettle, all type of dishes and cutlery, a small kitchen towel. However there is no dish-washing liquid, sponge, nor other cleaning utensils. The bathroom has a nice large walk-in shower, there are towels (one large, one small), one roll of toilet paper, but no soap. The room has just enough furniture and nice, clean bed linen. There are a table and two chairs on the balcony. The balcony has also wooden shutter doors. The room was cleaned (emptied the trash) twice during one week, the towels were changed once. The owner is rather discreet, I've hardly seen her once or twice. I've seen in previous reviews the villa was rented through Thomas Cook before it's collapse. Now it is listed by the Romanian tour-operator Aerovacante (Aerotravel Group) as Villa Ketty, and for whatever problem we communicated with them and not with the owner directly. The area is very quiet during the day (some loud music from the hotels nearby in the evening), north from the bus station 23, very close to the beginning of the path leading to Mandraki beach. At the end of May there are a lot of nice smelling flowers on the road from the bus station to the villa. In conclusion: a nice, clean, quiet place I would really love to return someday.

The hotel is very basic but clean , was a little shocked at the bathroom as dated, we had air conditioning, a television and safe all free of charge. Check in was an experience the people who run the hotel do not speak much english but we got by. We got on quiet will with them by the end of his holiday. The pool area is clean and tidy the pool is nice It has a shallow end with steps and a deep end with a sitting area, the only thing wrong with the pool area there is no pool bar but that all depends what you want. There is ample parking around the hotel.

mites on the mattress Serious hygiene issue

Reviewed By 136andreash

We visited 2nd year in a row with family with our two kids and stayed this August for two weeks since we were really satisfied from last year. This visit was a horrible hygiene experience for the whole family, there were mites on the mattress, curtains, etc..probably bed sheets and all the members of our family were seriously beaten by mites. We even bought on our own expense a special medicine to remove the mites and given a vacuum cleaner from the villa nefeli and cleaned the mattresses from our own precious holiday time since we didn’t want to disturb our precious holiday time - but with no result, the villa nefeli owner changed the mattresses but with no result - the whole room was full of mites. In any case the whole stay was a nightmare experience during the bed time. The villa owner should have been more professional & offered good solution. From our selfs we paid the whole amount as agreed from the beginning - the villa owners must learn to respect & appreciate the money given to them by offering an excellent hospitality experience as they promised.

Great food and service

Ate here twice during recent 2 week holiday. Although the hotel itself looks a bit tired the food and service in the restaurant is nothing less than excellent. The Stamna was so good and fresh tasting I had it on both occasions. A special shout for the very friendly manager who even helped out some older visitors to complete their UK covid paperwork.
