Not for You if you are Allergic to Cats

Reviewed By stuartmI7052TL

My wife and I stayed at Grass Valley Courtyard Suites Sunday April 10 through Wednesday April 13. As I approached the lobby to check in, I saw a cat seated in the middle of the lobby desk staring at me. I am extremely allergic to cats. Ten percent of Americans are allergic to cats. I had my wife complete the check in because I did not want to get sick. We were initially assigned a room next to the lobby. I asked for a different room because I didn't want to get sick. We incurred an upcharge because it was a better room, further from the lobby. I asked the clerk, Page, if the cat was always in the lobby, and asked if it went into the breakfast area. She said it comes and goes, and she really didn't know. She stated that 'we are pet friendly, so we have our animal ambassador in the lobby.' I explained to her that this is not a common understanding of 'pet friendly.' She shrugged. I did not see any point in further discussions about cat policy at the local level. I avoided the lobby, but every time I passed through to get breakfast the cat was in the lobby, mostly on the couch. Ten percent of Americans are allergic to cats. I would say that indulging the cat is a pretty poor trade off. I want to understand policies on this so I can make decisions about future travel plans.

Nice place for family

My son was getting married nearby and my family rented a total of 6 rooms. We were all pleased with the good quality of the motel (some Best Westerns aren't so great). The rooms had been refurbished fairly recently and were clean. The extensive grounds of the motel were nicely maintained. The breakfast was hot and tasty. We would come again.

A charming place

This inn was unique--it is not just another inn of a chain. Besides being clean and warm, our room had a full kitchen and, even cooler, the management gave us all the ingredients for a delicious omelet. The place is charming, with flowers in the yard, a flowering plant outside each room, a new tiny pond, lights on the trees, a family-type game on the grass, and a swing.

Would not return. AC was too noisy to use at night and the overhead fan didn’t work. Opened the sliding glass door and closed the screen door to the raised deck for some night air. We were awoken at 5:30am by the Canada geese (“honkers”) residing year round at the golf course next door. Questions and requests that couldn’t be answered by the front desk staff went unanswered. Although there is a stove and range in the room along with a fridge and microwave, there were no utensils, no plates/bowls/mugs, nothing to cook with, nada. Was happy when our two night stay was over.

DON'T GO NEVER!

Never go to this hotel. They sell rooms with bathtub but they never have a bathtub plug, they are dirty and the lamps don't work. They come to kick you out at 10 when check out is at 11. I went to ask for a plug for the bathtub and the owner told me they didn't have one. I asked him to change rooms or lower the price and he laughed in my face (literally). He told me that if I wanted another one he would charge me a plus. Finally he gave me another one which turned out to be worse than the previous one. I went to the front desk and after 10 minutes of calling he showed up and I told him I preferred the previous one and he gave me the key with very bad manners and rude gestures. There are other hotels in the area cheaper and much more professional and friendly. The service and attention offered at the Holiday Lodge is a real shame and contempt for the customer. I repeat: NEVER GO TO THIS HOTEL.

Absolutely Hidious

I have never ever stayed in such a filthy, rundown, seedy motel as this. It should be renamed “The Covid Inn.” Hopefully neither one of us caught something. The toilet bowl had dark urine stains around the rim, the plug was missing in the bathtub, no chair in the room nor was one available according to the woman at the desk. The outside metal railing was very loose, the floor was filthy, the outside grounds were littered with trash including an actual bucket of trash off to the side. The owner is just taking in the money and not putting a dime back into the business. The bath mat is a common use one used fir Lord knows how many people. Why didn’t we leave early? Well they conveniently had a 48 hour cancellation policy. The Covid Inn also has some questionable residents. I asked about them and was told they were fire victims. No way!! They appear to be transient people and how they pay is a question or does The State of California pay fir them?? If so The State is being ripped off by whoever owns this little gem,
