Reviewed By dani-mueNice location on the Elbe and in the city center. Service is friendly but a bit stiff. the room was quite small and a little dark with a great bathroom. Breakfast was good and offered quite some options. The staff at the bar was attentive and friendly.

Lovely visit to a peaceful location
Reviewed By rebecrogOur family stayed here for a long weekend visit in May 2018. We had a "maisonette" room. It had a large bedroom up a steep set of stairs in a loft-type space above, and living room downstairs that had a couch that was pulled out and made up to fit our two children. The space was large even with the pullout couch made into a bed, with extra chairs and desk and table space still accessible when the extra bed was made. Having the children downstairs in an extra space made it easier for the adults to stay up a bit later, too. There are also several nice sitting areas in the common spaces in the hotel and in the porches and lawns around the grounds. The bathroom was very large, and had a separate tub and shower. There was an electric kettle for making instant coffee in the room. My favorite part of this hotel was the location. It's just a bit out of town so more quiet that the more centrally located hotels, and it's right along the bike path and the river. We went out to dinner most nights and had lovely evening walks back to the hotel along the river. The hotel has a big lawn that stretches right down to the bike path and the river. It includes an area with an outdoor swimming pool. It was a nicely maintained pool with flowering trees and grass all around, with several nice benches for sitting and looking out at the river. The pool had just opened for the season when we were there in early May and it was too cold for us to spend more than a few minutes in the water, but the location, the garden, and the view of the river and the surrounding hills from the pool was really memorable. The meals were good. The breakfast buffet was solidly good, I would say, although not amazing. The staff was attentive and pleasant. There were always a few hot options, some cheese, some bread, some sliced meat, etc.. We also booked for half board which included dinner--but we didn't realize this until our last night, and when we checked out and told them our mistake they didn't charge us for the dinners we had never eaten. I appreciated their flexibility on this. The hotel also rents bikes, which would have been perfect for us given their location on the bike path. Unfortunately, they only rent adult sized bikes which wouldn't work for our younger daughter, and the only bike rental options in town were all booked and required reservations well in advance. Bikers--on busy weekends, make sure you book ahead!

Pleasant, centrally located hotel in Bad Schandau
Reviewed By Wim JWe booked last minute a room for 4 persons in the hotel. There was some confusion with the booking, was cancelled while we were on our way ?, but later on confirmed again ? We arrived just around 9 PM and unfortunately could, after a 8 hour auto trip, not order any food anymore. After we checked in our Appartement and started to look for alternative food locations we found out that after 9 pm is it hard to find any food outlet open. The apartment was located 120 m from the hotel on the top floor. It was clean, spacious and had sleeping spots for 6 (we were 4). Since it was located in the attic of the building it was for me (1.88 m) not possible to stand straight up in some areas of the apartment. For a few days this is ok, for longer periods this could become unpleasant. Due to the extreme heat (whole week 30C++) the apartment was very hot, the 2 available fans could not handle the heat ?. The breakfast is superb and the staff is friendly. Stefany (the mngr) speaks good English and gave us some good advise. The location of the hotel excellent for trips to the Saxion nature park. The second evening we tried to have diner in the hotel but it was fully booked. The third evening we came early at 7.30 to occupy the reserved table but the kids arrived back late from their hiking trip. Although they arrived at 8.45 PM the kitchen was not accepting any other orders anymore. “There were only 2 persons in the kitchen, understaffed, and they couldn’t accept more orders” was the reply from the worried serving staff, even though our food was ordered just 5 min before!! We didn’t think this was very hospitable, but also understood that there were hardly any alternatives in this small city. The kids went with the Car to the Czech Republic (15 min drive) to get their meal. So overall nice clean hotel with friendly staff but the “strict” last order rules should, in our view, be adjusted and relaxed in order to satisfy the in-house guest.

Reviewed By PAJOGWe were given a very warm welcome and felt looked after our entire visit. Top floor room ( be aware no lift) with a balcony and views to the 19th Century tower and observation deck. Spacious suite with comfy sofa and an even more comfortable bed and seperate duvets (why doesn't ever hotel have these!?) much appreciated. Very clean, another plus! Delicious breakfast with sensible portions allowing one to taste everything. Tea and coffee machine available 24 hours. Easy stroll into town or to the ferry for the train station connection. On site parking. Highly recommend.

Fine hotel
Reviewed By John KThe hotel was fine, if nothing extraordinary. The room was spacious and clean, and breakfasts were adequate. The lack of AC is a problem if you should get a heat wave, as we did; it was 98 degrees one day, and sleeping was difficult that night. Noise was also an issue, since all the rooms and balconies face onto a central courtyard. If anybody’s making noise, everybody has to listen to it. On the positive side: the location is terrific. The Bastei area (including Rathen), by contrast, is incredibly crowded. But Bad Schandau is laid-back, and full of decent (if not particularly special) restaurants. The hotel is also right next door to the national park center, where we got truly excellent advice (and good maps) all three times we went in asking for help picking hikes. If you have a full day, I recommend hiking in the Schrammsteine area, along the Gratweg trail if possible, taking in the famous viewpoint at Schrammsteine-aussicht. You get the same fantastical scenery that you’d get at the Bastei (only much more of it), without the crowds. If you have a car, you MUST try to have dinner at the Landgasthaus zum Schwarzbachtal, which is about 10 minutes away. The food is extraordinarily good, much of it farm-to-table or otherwise hand-crafted (I especially recommend the homemade venison bratwurst, and the local fish dishes), and the setting is rustic and romantic, especially if the weather permits you to dine outdoors. An infinitely better experience than dining in Bad Schandau!

Cosy and ideally located for hiking
Reviewed By Grandmother GDE/ENG Die Zimmer sind sehr gemütlich, sauber und warm und die kleine Küchenecke ist mit allem ausgestattet, was man zum Kochen braucht. Die Lage ist ideal für Wanderausflüge in den Nationalpark. The rooms are very cosy, clean and warm and the little kitchenette has everything you need for cooking your own meals. The location is perfect for hiking trips into the national park.

Very good experience, particularly with river view

We stayed there during a week-long Malerweg hiking trip – on our first night and on our last three nights in the area, i.e. four nights in total. The room we had on our first night did not overlook the river. The room was fine, but we would have like the Elb view. So we asked for this for our second stay a few days later – which they promised us. The first room (room 101 – no river view) was quite OK, quite spacious, window on to a terrace. The bathroom was also fine. But our second room (room 314) a few days later was far better – this had a gorgeous view on the river and a French balcony so we could open it up wide and really enjoy the view. This room was bigger and better than the first one, and the bathroom was a lot bigger too – really big in fact. Having this room for our three nights in a row made our stay really pleasant. The Elbhotel has a very practical location in Bad Schandau, right on the ferry and next to a backery and supermarket (just across the road from the small hotel car park). The public parking (Elbkai) is right in front of the hotel. The staff was really friendly, both in the reception and in the restaurant. We had dinner there on the first night – nothing spectacular but OK. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Elbhotel, but particularly so with the river view room.

Comfortable hotel with excellent breakfast
Reviewed By John DThe Erbgericht seems quite a sprawling establishment, with an annexe as well as the main building, a vaulted cellar bar across the courtyard, a linked restaurant, Pension zur Eiche, 100m away and secure bike storage hidden behind another building across the street. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the railway tracks and although the trains are fairly regular we didn't find that a problem. (The unsightly full ashtray on the balcony table should really have been dealt with by housekeeping though.) We ate at the Pension in the evening, which we found very good. The vegetarian offer of cheesy dumplings was slightly on the heavy side but the duo of lightly battered zander and cod on a salad with excellent roast potatoes was a winner. Back at the main hotel in the morning the breakfast room was busy with walking groups but the well-laid out spread was kept replenished and the plentiful staff made sure that every table got its flask of coffee. We had used the free pass to go over to Bad Schandau in the afternoon, although since there's a tourist tax on checkout, I guess you pay for it indirectly.
