Reviewed By dizexpatHats off to Jacqueline, Carlos and Victor. They went out of their way to help me, especially through the complex process of buying a phone chip in Brazil. They were wonderful in every respect and will make your stay in Olinda a pleasure. I had a room in the annex across the street and it was quite spacious with a four-poster bed and an outdoor bathtub (the view from the street is blocked so don't feel shy about using it.) The breakfast was bountiful. Fruit, cheeses, meats, cakes and bread plus coffee and juice. It will keep you full till dinner time. Dinner at the restaurant was also delicious and reasonably priced. Once more all my thanks to Jacqueline, Carlos and Victor my first friends in Brazil.

Desde a chegada até a saída eles foram super atenciosos, prestativos e ajudadores em tudo o que podiam. O quarto era acomodador, com frigobar e cama confortável. Fiz uma viagem de negócios, o custo benefício valeu a pena. A comida do restaurante é bem gostosa. Voltaria, com certeza!

Disappointing
Reviewed By Lois RThe old restored mansion creates a lovely impression as you arrive with the mature garden inside the walls, the welcoming reception area, the breakfast areas inside and out, and interesting art & curios everywhere. Erika had arranged for us to park our rental car in the garage next door for which we were grateful. It is in the artistic neighbourhood with cafes and live music. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. It seems that since the 2019 reviews things are not working as smoothly anymore. We had booked a Deluxe Double room, and confirmed it, but we clearly didn't receive one (room 117). Room 117 is not at all like the rooms in their photos of Deluxe Double rooms. The room felt as though it might have been the servant’s quarters in ages past. Our room was an awkward, narrow, cramped room with a queen bed and a twin bed squeezed in to create a family room. The Balcony was narrow and tiny with half of it an alcove housing the A/C compressor for what seemed to be several rooms. The compressor was exactly 6 feet from my pillow with the sound buffered only by a single sheet of window glass. I know it sounds unbelievable so I will attach a photo of it. The air conditioner was mounted directly above our bed and blew noisy cold air on us. We couldn’t turn it off as it was a hot and humid night and very stuffy in the room. The bed only had a single top sheet with no blanket to help brace us against the cold. Between the noise and the cold we finally gave up on sleep and decided to get an early start on our driving day. We decided to pack before breakfast, and that’s when we found out that the shower only ran cold water at 7 a.m. I have since found the photo of our room on their website and it is billed as a room for 3 people. I was very disappointed as I’d had email exchanges in advance to ensure our room was what I’d booked. After my confirmation of a Deluxe Double room from booking.com I received an email from the Pousada saying my “economic room” was reserved. I immediately emailed them to ensure that the room would be Deluxe Double inside the main house as we’d reserved. The response, "they’d made an error, our room would be the Deluxe Double". It was not. That would have been the time to tell me honestly that they couldn’t accommodate us as reserved and I could have easily found something more suitable elsewhere. Our bookings almost never have a problem but I guess you can’t win every time.

Beautiful place
Reviewed By PauloMariaWe stayed in this Pousada for 10 days last December. Originally we made a reservation for Pousada Praia dos Milagres, but we didn't like the location of that one and Patricia (the owner of both Pousadas) suggested that we move to Alto Astral, which is just in the center of Olinda. We choose one of the rooms on the top floor. The room is wonderful, it has one private balcony, from where one can see part of Olinda and Recife. This balcony also has a disco ball light in case you want to have a party there :-). The Pousada is just about 50 meters to the famous quatro cantos, where the carnival parties always meet. From here everything in historic Olinda is at walking distance, We often made the severe uphill walk on Rua da Mericórdia. On the top there are many shops, churches, an outside market. and great veiws of Olinda and Recife. Olinda doesn't have great beaches, so we rent a car (Patricia called a person and after a few minutes he was on the pousada to give us the car) and drove to Itamaracá island and the very nice Coroa do Avião, to Igarassu, to Recife and Boa Viagem beach, to Porto de Galinhas and to Praia dos Carneiros. We walked a lot alone around Olinda and felt very safe. On the Pousada we met several persons (which are now our friends), from Santos, Mineiros, Santa Catarina and from California. and spent the New Year's Eve with them. The Pousada has a pool, and many places to relax. There are a few (giant) trees (the mango are lovely).. The breakfast had lots of things, but unfortunately we missed it a few times because we wanted to leave early to avoid the traffic jams and they started the breakfast a bit late for us. There are Saguis on the trees and sometimes they come close to you, when you are having breakfast or in the pool. All the employees were always very helpful and nice.

We offer cosy rooms with familiar ambience, with private bathroom and idependent entrance. We speak english, portuguese, german and french. Bookings and reservation requests can be done directly with us, by email or by our homepage. CAUTION: our name is "CAMA E CAFÉ OLINDA", make sure you don´t confuse us with another B&B with a very similar name, outside of the Historic Center. We are looking forward to your stay with us!
Great place with fantastic hosts
Reviewed By Beaufort_UKI spent one night here by special arrangement on my way from Fernando de Noronha to Sao Paulo and then London. Sebastian kindly collected me from the airport and then also gave me a short tour of the local area, which was great. He is very chatty and friendly, which is welcome when arriving in a new place. Olinda is an interesting blend of Portugal, Brazil and the tropics. I was fortunate enough to see a couple of groups practising for Carnival. The accommodation is clean, bright and comfortable. I had a good night's sleep in comfort. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long for breakfast but really enjoyed tropical fruits, pao de queijo, cheese, breads, eggs and tea (so a lot!) while overlooking the town from their terrace. This is a really nice place to stay on every level.

Reviewed By camilleg149The Eco Olinda is the perfect B&B if you want a casual, feel-at-home relaxing experience. The house is very nicely decorated, and our hostess was of great help. She gave us the insightful tips to enjoy our days in Olinda and Recife (restaurants nearby, places to visit...). The room was large and the window gave to the trees, which was just amazing, especially when you wake up. The breakfast was incredible, with hand-made granola, yogurt and bred, fresh juice, tapioca and grilled local cheese. I definitely recommend this bucolic place where I so much enjoyed reading a book in the hammock after a day of visits!

Reviewed By s0nia38Awful! The owner wasn't nice at all. He refuses to serve a proper breakfast because of the price I paid wasn't high enough!!! Plus, if you arrived at 9:00, you will eat ONLY bread. He refuses to add cheese and ham!! Air conditining only at nigh and not even in the bathroom. No windows in the bathroom. He refuses to turn on the air conditionning during the day. No towels because that "gentle" man didn't want to wash it after. What a joke! Pass your way, don't come here!!

Great pousada
Reviewed By Heidi1982015We stayed here because the location was perfect the people were friendly and helpful and the room was very big and spacious. It wasn't fancy at all but very clean and the kids loved it. If u hate A/C like me then you will love the fans and airy room with big bay windows. Breakfast was delicious but simple. Would def recommend if you not looking for fancy and u want authentic and not like some of these fancy hotels that are awful and call themselves posadas!

ALL WOMEN - stay away
Reviewed By Vickyannehughes2My boyfriend and I stayed in Sao Pedro pousada at the end of a three month trip traveling Brazil. I've never had an experience like this. There are three men working there, the owner his son and another man Sandro. The first two days were pleasant enough and the third night coming home I stayed on the couch downstairs and fell asleep to be woken by Sandro feeling me up. I pushed him away as he was grabbing me everywhere. I went upstairs to tell my boyfriend as I wanted to leave and was in tears. He went straight down to confront the owner and Sandro. We packed and went to another pousada down the road where we called the police with the owner there. They came and we went back to pousada Sao Pedro and Sandro the worker had fled. The police took his details but that was it. The owner knew perfectly well where he was hiding but wouldn't give him up as they are all very close and I am pretty sure Sandro was living there. Like I say, this has never happened before and in the three months traveling in brazil I've never experienced anything like this. Men have been so respectful more so as I have a boyfriend. This is the only way I can advise people NOT TO STAY there. They are recommended in Lonely planet and I intend to write to them too. The police haven't done much and I leave brazil today hoping they will follow up on it. But who knows...
