Finally a rerasonably priced Finland hotel
Reviewed By aekrfkJoensuu was not our destination but a place to stop for the night on our self drive route. We had been paying an average of $200 USD a night at Finland hotels. What a pleasure to come across Greenstar hotel! About $100 with a nice room and free parking. Front desk staff was very nice and she recommended a great restaurant walking distance from the hotel. There was construction going on in the street so we asked for a quiet room in the back which was in reality very quiet. Highly recommend.

Reviewed By marymO6822IXWe ate dinner, spent the night with 3 kids and enjoyed a very generous brunch, included in the price of the rooms, the next morning. The dinner was good, very tasty muikku and a pizza that was excellent. It was karaoke night at the restaurant so the kids got to hear some music and dance to the tango. The rooms were spotless and charmingly decorated. My bedroom had a calming view of the lake. Brunch the next morning was excellent and exceeding generous. The omelette was absolutely fantastic. This place totally exceeded my expectations and I'll be back when visiting friends in the area next year. Kids got to swim at cute little beach and watch the boats come and go.

Reviewed By Taru_MeritieIf you come to Kitee, you should not come this place. In Sunday there was no services at all and even the price should include the breakfast, there was no breakfast at all. They say that it's because of Covid19, but there was not information at all of that in the room. When you look the hotels own websites there is information that you will have you breakfast to your room. But there was not. Also there was not staff at all, and all door was lock. After you call to some number you get someone to tell you information. We ask if we could have double bed, but maybe there is no doublebed at all in the hotel, or they just did not want to give us that. Even the hotel seems to be empty. I think if you come to Finland you will get really nice rooms with great location and services with same price. But not from here. I don't recommend for anyone. Varasin huoneen tästä hotellistqa läheiselleni äitienpäiväviikonlopppuyöksi. Olen matkustellut Suomessa eri tason yöpymispaikoissa paljon. Hotellin yöpymishinta oli tasoon nähden korkea. Toivoimme huoneeseen parivuodetta mutta ilmeisesti sitä ei ollut saatavilla koko hotellista sillä tyhjyydestä huolimatta tätä toivetta ei oltu huomoitu. Hintaan kuului aamiainen. Hotellin sivuilta löytyi erillinen info että koronan vuoksi aamiainen saatetaan tarjoilla jääkaappiin. Erillisestä informointia tästä ei ollut huoneissa, eikä siitä informoitu myöskään hotelliin soitettaessa. Aamulla kaikki ovet sekä aulapalvelu oli kiinni. Etsimisen ja puhelujen jälkeen selvisti että aamiaista ei tarjoilla lainkaan. Hintaan tämä ei vaikuttanut. Hotellista ja sen palvelusta jäin tasoton ja ei-palvelualtis olo.

Reviewed By 394anuhNice accomodation, not expensive, very friendly and helpfull staff. Breakfast incl, basic, nothing special. Due to the very hot weather the rooms were too hot, no airconditioning available. Free wifi was positiv alltho it was quite slow. Location otherwise ok, the road only in a terrible condition. Alltogether a pleasant stay.

The traditional log house used to be a village school but has now been lovingly renovated for it's new purpose, welcoming international visitors. We have ten bedrooms, seven rooms upstairs and three rooms downstairs, and can accommodate up to fifteen persons. There are lounges and balconies as well as a Finnish sauna heated with a log fire. Our kitchen provides fresh local food.

We stayed in 3 different Guest houses the last one being Minnas Majatalo Pihlajapuu / Aksyt Ammat Oy. The facilities were great. Boot, Ski hire, excellent guiding, very friendly guest houses. Loads and loads of great mostly locally sourced and prepared / cooked food. The smoked sauna experience was unique.

Superb atmosphere and lovely food
Reviewed By Anna BI had the pleasure to stay at this extraordinary b&b for two nights as part of a skiing trip organised by Aksyt Ammat travel agency. On Finland, it's for some reason very rare to come by authentic Karelian food. This place has it all from tasty pies to the traditional meat stew and yummy home made jams, all of course organic and from the local farmers/hunters. The sauna was absolutely amazing, and I really appreciated the attention to detail, such as the candles and the nice soaps and shampoos. The rooms are quite basic but clean and comfy. With the cold winter temperatures, I wouldn't have minded a warmer duvet though. The hostess Anni and her entire family made us feel very welcome. I'm definitely visiting Puukarin Pysäkki again!

A relaxing weekend in the middle of nature
Reviewed By Timo MWe stayed here for a weekend on easter of 2017 and I have nothing but good things to say about the place and its hosts. First of all, the hosts were extremely helpful and friendly and they made us feel like home immediately upon arriving. They let us know about all the possibilities of things to do around the area and kindly answered all our questions about hiking and the history of the place. We ended up ice fishing (which was amazing), catching our own fish and cooking it and then going to the barrel sauna they had outside. The breakfast was very good and we felt extremely relaxed after our stay. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for relaxation.

Feeling Home in Finland

Fishing, Barbecue, private playground with lovely pets accompanied with freshly made breakfast every morning. Rooms are spacious with your own private kitchen and bathrooms. The hosts are very friendly and informative. It is definitely a place to stay if you visit Ilomantsi or wanted to feel like home abroad. The place is historical with plenty of parking place. Good for family visit and retreat. 我的家人和朋友待了一個星期，我們每天都在享受不同的東西,包含釣魚，燒烤，私人遊樂場以及每天早晨的新鮮早餐。 寬敞的客房設有私人廚房和浴室。 主人非常友好和信息豐富。 如果您遊覽Ilomantsi或想在國外感覺像家一樣，這絕對是一個住宿的地方。 這個地方是歷史悠久的，有充足的停車位。 適合家庭遊覽和休養。

I wouldn't say that there's anything overly wrong with the B&B, as the host was lovely, the décor is cool and cosy, breakfast was good and there's a filter coffee machine in the common area. But I didn't really like sharing a bathroom and there was also an odd smell in the room. Don't worry, not a bad smell but something that put me off a little hence the average rating. But if you're happy to share a bathroom, then I'd say it's a good choice.
