Charming Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed By 807AmyCWe stayed for one night at the Villa Dampierre in early April at the beginning of our trip through the Pyrenees and the Basque Country. Our room on the first floor (2nd floor to Americans) was large, airy and charming, with wood floors and high ceilings. The bed was very comfortable, the room and bathroom were very clean, and we had everything we needed. The property owners were not available during our stay so we were hosted by their son Paul. He was very helpful and accommodating and spoke a lot more English than I speak French. Breakfast was simple but good. The home-made yogurt was delicious! The garden is very pretty as well.

La chambre est basique, la salle de bains et les toilettes en commun. C’est très propre, mais les serviettes de toilettes sont usées. Le petit déjeuner est simple mais bio Pour résumer, si vous souhaitez un endroit sans chichi, et en toute détente sans prise de tête c’est parfait.

The host, Xavier, graciously greeted us and offered us rooms and a bit of local wine. The house is a classic and grand home, which is very fresh and well cared for. The grounds are over the top with unbelievably beautiful views of the valleys and the mountains. The blue room view is amazing. The breakfast offerings were local and lovely in the pretty dining room. The drive to town is about 10 minutes. If we hadn’t needed dinner, we probably would not have left at all. Great stay!

"Lived in" Perfection
Reviewed By MichaelH551673The first thing that strikes you when you arrive at this "Hometel" is the fantastic view of the Pyrenees which rise into the skyline after the beautiful countryside in the foreground. The greeting from the owner is as heartwarming as the view and within a few minutes the four of us were having a cup of tea on the patio getting to know Willamena, the owner. After this warm welcome we were shown to our rooms on the first floor, the two rooms were large, clean and very comfortable and with the balcony once again giving those jaw dropping mountain views. The house is located about 3 miles from the town and is set in beautiful countryside so if you do want to have a meal and drink in the town then a taxi is essential, however I cannot recommend that you do this because you would miss a home cooked meal with local wine in your temporary abode. The meal that Willomena cooked can only be described as FANTASTIC in every way and it was very reasonably priced. The same was also true of the very ample breakfast. Although this was a home for Willomena and her son , they lived on the ground floor and the 3 guest bedrooms were all located on the first floor, this worked really well and in my opinion it was better than most 4 star hotels that I have stayed in, I hope to have the pleasure of staying again.

Reviewed By mitch wWe arrived a the Musee de Beau Arts way to early and decided to have coffee and a treat. This place is across the street from the entrance. So being late for breakfast, we simply had coffee and pain de chocolat. Nice helpful staff, wind protected outdoor seating was nice. Easy place to rest before visiting the Musee.

The amenities look many many years old but very well maintained and well looked after. Even with the language barrier ( being australian with minimal french) the owners tried so hard to assist us in any way they could

Upstairs : 2 spacious bedrooms TV equipped, A/C (gite) and private bathrooms with 1 bed 160cms in one, 2 beds 100cms semi-detached and sofa-bed 140cms in the other. Possibility 6 people with supplement. Heating 7 € / day on winter. Beds are made upon arrival. Possibility to rent the toilet linen if needed. Monique and Pierre will be happy to welcome you summer and winter in their haven of peace on the slopes of Gan in Bearn country, 7 minutes from Pau, in a setting of greenery and serenity, with views of the Pyrenees, for a well being and relaxing stay. In the heart of the vineyards of Jurancon, beautiful property facing south, facing the Pyrenees. Independent access (courtyard closed). Shared: fenced swimming pool 10 x 5 (access from 10 am to 8 pm). Wooded park of 5000 m².

Reviewed By BEVIPWe wanted to explore the Pyrenees and thought that L'Horizon would be a good base. We were not disappointed with the location and Pierre and Monique were the perfect hosts. We ate with them for 5 nights of the 6; the food was absolutely delicious and we were made to feel very welcome and they even helped us with our questionable French! We will definitely be returning.

Grandiose/overpriced
Reviewed By alan lVery pricey, food good, not fantastic. I suspect at least some of the cost was because of the dozen or so pieces of silverware presented over the course of the meal to each diner. Excellent service, Quiet setting next to pool. Restaurant is in a very old and grand hotel.Wide array of choices of food.
