Kadizora Camp

Wonderful

Reviewed By sgorick

Spent three nights at Kadizora Camp in May 2022. It was fantastic. We enjoyed daily drives, boat rides, a hot air balloon ride and the camp. We saw so many animals, thanks to OC, our awesome guide. In addition to being a great guy, he amazed us with his tracking skills and took great care of us with snacks, beverages, and warm ponchos while out in the grasslands. The camp was so comfortable. The rooms are nice, the food was very good, and the staff was absolutely wonderful. They were so accommodating and really have thought of everything , like the hot water bottles in our beds. Brought back wonderful memories, unbelievable photos, and the sundown tradition!

Muchenje Safari Lodge

Small, Owner run property situated on the western edge of the Chobe National Park. Our remote location means our game drives do not reach the masses that inhibit other Chobe Lodges. Also enjoy boat trips on the Chobe and walks within the Chobe Forest Reserve. Muchenje offers Rustic luxury accommodation with outstanding views across the flood plains and into the Caprivi Strip.

A Place To Come Back To

Reviewed By julijoyeux

Our mother daughter safari adventure began at Muchenje and throughout our time in Africa, we kept remembering this place and the people who call it home. From our first warm welcome to sharing hugs before leaving, our two night initiation into safari travel was perfect. Kiddy and Tuff are capable and helpful managers, but really, you felt like friends just enjoying their company in their home. Our safari guide, Ali, shared an encyclopedia of knowledge, stories, and his family and professional life with us as we explored the Chobe area during a morning and afternoon open air land rover ride, one night ride, and a long and leisurely afternoon boat ride on the Chobe River. This is not to be missed as the perspective of the land from the water is both beautiful and relaxing. The common lounge areas of the lodge were cozy, well-styled, and open air and family style dining was friendly and engaging. Each evening, one of the chefs introduced themselves and the meal to come…how charming! The food was delicious, filling, and always included a local flavor or ingredient and the conversations with other guests and staff made the experience even more rewarding. Afterward, the evening fire looked so inviting but the early mornings and lingering travel lag had us in our comfortable thatched roof cottage right after dinner where we slept peacefully despite the nearby elephants! Although we never lingered on our private deck to take advantage of the gorgeous view, we thoroughly enjoyed the cottage interior with every amenity…from a large rainfall shower to the soft linens on the bed. It was an unexpected pleasure to have quality perfumed soaps and hair products, a blow dryer, in room coffee/tea service, screened windows, bed netting and insect spray, a safe, and complete quiet and privacy. And, did I mention that in our short time we saw giraffe, elephant, zebra, impala, scrub hare, lion, hippo, crocodile, impala, kudu, sable antelope, cape buffalo, baboon, and birds everywhere? We will return someday and we recommend this Muchenje experience to all. (Traveled May 2022)

Sable Alley

Sable Alley is a complete rebuild of a favourite old bush camp. Overlooking a lagoon that’s connected to the Khwai and Sable Alley rivers, just a stone’s throw from the world-famous Moremi Game Reserve, this enviable location means the game literally comes to us. From the swimming pool, lounge, outdoor seating areas and all the guest’s tents there are uninterrupted views of the resident pod of around 30 hippos and the large herds of plains game, elephant and buffalo coming to drink – an idyllic way to spend an afternoon, especially with a cold gin and tonic in hand. When you are ready to explore further afield, Sable Alley’s expert guides are on hand to interpret the sights, smells, and sounds of the bush. The massive 440,000 acre Khwai Private Reserve comprises some of the most fantastically diverse habitats in northern Botswana, including riverine woodlands, open floodplains, rivers and mopane woodland. This range of habitats means an array of wildlife, including lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo and of course the eponymous sable antelope. Game viewing will not just be from safari vehicles (both during the day and at night). At Sable Alley we also offer mokoro safaris —enjoy being gently ‘poled’ along the water in a traditional canoe—a wonderful way to do some bird watching and game viewing. Boating is a highlight when water levels are high. Back at camp, your home in the bush is one of our spacious and stylish tents. Elevated onto raised decks, each of the camp’s twelve luxurious tents has an uninterrupted view of the lagoon, with en suite bathrooms, private verandahs and private, indoor & outdoor showers where you can wash off the dust of each truly memorable day. Two of these are comfortable family units with interconnected tents. End a day of exhilarating game viewing with a night drive where you will encounter nocturnal creatures such as leopard, spiky porcupines and fearless honey badgers.

This was second lodge on our 10 days trip to Botswana and we loved everything about it. Lodge itself is beautiful! All the common areas are open space and facing water hole filled with hippos. Animals come to have a drink all day long, so you can have your drink and watch baboons, impalas, even elephants come by. Incredible. " Tents" are stunning, incredibly spacious with large dressing/bathroom area, indoor and outdoor shower, deck overlooking water. Food was fantastic, you always had couple of choices of main course and presentation was always beautiful. The best part however were game drives. We had phenomenal tracker Tizzar and every game drive exceeded our expectations. This was my 11 th African safari, but by far the best one and I hope to return. 5 star all the way!

Mapula Lodge

Rustic Lodge in incredible setting

Reviewed By Kolobezko

This was first camp we stayed in during our 10 days itinerary in Botswana. Upon arrival, the lodge is very welcoming and homey. Lounge area filled with comfy couches, poofs, lovely fire pit, everything is positioned to overlook water lagoon filled with hippos. We had tent/cabin number 1. Very rustic, but comfortable. Beware of spiders! Even though there is protective netting over bed, every night we had huge, huge spiders in the bed itself, so we learned to shake the blankets and sheets before we went to sleep. Food was good, but very simple, they ask you if you have any special dietary needs and they will adjust the meal, but there are no choices which at the price tag was surprising. Our game drives were good, we also tried mokoro ride and boat safari and they were all good experiences. One big disappointment was pool. It was out of service and while they built new plunge pool area- it's not in the camp. Your guide has to drive you there and then sit in the car while you are lounging, which was very uncomfortable as we knew we were cutting into his free time. Also, as this is not at the camp, there was nothing there as to drinks/water etc, I think little ice chest with beer, wine and soft drinks would be very useful. Overall, camp is in fantastic setting, game drives were great, I hope they resolve the pool situation soon,

Jewel of the Delta

Reviewed By islandki

We stayed at Eagle Island Lodge with our 3 children for 3 nights. Upon arrival, we were immediately blown away by the warm welcome from the staff and the unique modern twist on the lodge decor. The colours and patterns evoke all the animals and their habitats that you will experience on safari. The rooms are beyond luxurious, with a private plunge pool and oval bathtub in each room! The most amazing aspect, however, is the location of the lodge...right on the Okavango River. While game drives are an option, we chose instead to spend every day on the water, whether by motor boat, pontoon boat, mokoro (canoe) and loved every minute. The wildlife was plentiful and there were numerous opportunities for very close encounters thanks to our wonderful guide, Goms. This is definitely the jewels of the Delta and should not be left off of ANY itinerary!

Fantastic stay in May 2022

As a family of 4 we took up two chalets and stayed for 4 nights. The lodge, grounds, amenities were extremely well kept. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was fantastic. David and Candy were excellent hosts, and helped us with some alternative plans to go to Vic Falls for a day in lieu, and helped arrange the necessary rapid PCR testing for one of our group to cross into Zimbabwe. Elliott, our guide, took us on some incredible game drives, and as experienced safari travellers we had specific interests and all boxes were checked, with a focus on lions in action and leopards. Witnessed 2 active lion chases/hunts and 2 close in leopard sightings. We would definitely return here and would recommend Chobe Bakwena!

Khwai Tented Camp- African Bush Camps

Set within the Okavango Delta’s community-run Khwai Concession, this beautiful camp is tucked under the trees on the edge of the Khwai River. This river is all that separates the iconic Moremi Game Reserve and the concession, with hippos, elephants and even lions crossing over from time to time. Watching these animals manoeuvre through the water is an exceptional experience for even the most travelled safari veterans. The elegantly designed camp hosts six standard tents and one family unit, keeping in line with the intimate and exclusive wilderness experience. The new camp effortlessly bridges the gap between luxury accommodation and feeling like you’re in the great African outdoors. Woven baskets and beaded décor, along with modern elements, create an authentic contemporary African style.

Magnificent

The finest camp we have stayed at in our three African safaris. We were there in a group of 6 for four nights for a photo safari. We had 2 private wildlife guides that supplemented the drivers. So 2 vehicles for 3 of us in each one which is great for photographers. First class service and room accommodations. The rooms are spectacular and huge. Indoor and outdoor showers along with a plunge pool at every room! The chef was first class. The meals were as good or better than any 4 star restaurant in the US. I had my back seize up on me and they offered immediate assistance and were attentive to the specific needs of all of the guests. The drivers were among the better ones we have had on safaris before. They understood placement for photographers with wildlife and communicated well with the other drivers to maximize our sightings. They were able to keep up with wild dogs on 2 separate hunts which is not an easy task. One of the few locations in Bots that you are almost guaranteed to see rhinos, leopards, lions, wild dogs and of course the vast array of prey. The Malachite Kingfishers were abundant and spectacular. The roads are rough but then they are in all camps in the Okavango Delta. The boat rides were awesome and a good change of pace. We arrived just before their new airship was completed so we had some bonus fun of flying in by helicopter. Starting in April 2022 you can land via bush plane a couple of minutes from the camp. Can't answer some of the questions below since everything was just simply done for us. You forget about all stress and just have fun. The monkeys do run across the roofs occasionally and get a bit rowdy but hey its Africa, you are here for an adventure. A bit pricey but if you can pull it off you will not be disappointed. Would go back in an instant as this is simply one of the finest camps in Africa and its reputation is well deserved.

The rooms had all the amenities that were needed for our comfort. The food was very good and the staff were accommodating and very friendly.
