Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary

A good description of the many natural activities found on the island

Reviewed By jerb2014 - Bristol, United States

Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary has it all: great hiking trails, a beautiful forest, great views, large boulders and a fabulous beach. Four hundred acres were purchased or received through donation to create this treasure. Some of the paths are a bit steep but not too challenging. One leads to the beach where you will fine pristine water and fine sand. Unfortunately, swimming is not allowed. To get there, take State Road to Indian Hill Road, follow this to Obed Dagger Road and look for sanctuary signs. The road is narrow and unpaved and not for the faint of heart, but in about a mile, you will arrive to the parking area. There, relax and enjoy!

Polly Hill Arboretum

The Polly Hill Arboretum is a public garden. The grounds are open to visitors daily, sunrise to sunset, year-round. A staffed Visitor Center with garden info, merchandise and plant sales is open Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend, 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Tours are available daily at 10:00 a.m. in July and August, and by advanced reservation otherwise. Tours are free with $5 admission. The Polly Hill Arboretum, a Martha’s Vineyard landmark, was developed by the legendary horticulturist, Polly Hill (1907-2007). Polly began her collection of unique plants in 1958. Established in 1998 as a not-for-profit institution the Arboretum is devoted to the cultivation and study of plants and the preservation of the character and magic of this tranquil landscape. There are 25 acres of cultivated landscape open to visitors and the remaining 47 are preserved woodlands. In 2015 the Polly Hill Arboretum was designated as a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places. Rare trees and shrubs from around the world are set among stone walls, meadows, and fields, including Polly’s famous North Tisbury azaleas, the national stewartia collection, camellias, hollies, rhododendrons, crabapples, conifers, magnolias, and many more. The kousa dogwood allee, perennial border, monkey puzzle tree, and the Julian Hill magnolia are favorites with visitors.

Martha's Vineyard Glassworks

Reviewed By cjonesbos - Boston, United States

We stopped with our 4 kids (aged 13 down to 5) and loved seeing the beautiful pieces. We had to split into smaller groupings due to Covid and the glass blowing was also different due to precautions as well. The worker was very knowledgeable and kind. We would have stayed longer but limited our time due to the number of people allowed inside.
