Stay overnight in Santa Comba Dao then do the trip one way, 50km downhill. I stayed at Casas Vale Martinho, a couple of km from the bike trail. I rented a bike from Peter, English speaking, Ecopista Comba Dao. When there are enough people, he organises a big taxi to take you to the uphill start of the trail, at Viseu, E23 for bike and taxi. Fabulous day ride, beautiful scenery, no people, no traffic. Take food as limited availability.

Se Catedral de Viseu

This remarkable building justly deserves a visit. It´s rather austere and massive, having a baroque interior with golden altars, ornated vaults, etcetera. In the adjacent cloister, there are also beautiful elements and tiles. One good thing about this Cathedral is to be surrounded by others points of interest, so this is not a monumental landmark in the middle of nothing, as sometimes happens. Next to the Cathedral there is a religious art museum and, on the other side, there is an outstanding painting museum, the Grao Vasco. Shame I was a bit short of time that day, but I won´t miss it in my next stay in Viseu, which I hope to be soon, as I loved the city as a whole. Besides, there is a monumental church -Misericórdia- just opposite the Cathedral, that deserves to be seen too. This beautiful area around the Cathedral is on the top of a hill, being quite monumental and endowed with nice traditional architecture: monuments, picturesque old stone houses, cobbled winding streets and so on.

It has being renovated in 2006, and the most principal attractions are the ice skating circuit, and ice bar, and a sports place.
Under need you have a parking space, but you have to pay when you stay longer than a certain period of time. Anyhow a nice location to spent some time with shopping or doing sports.

I read about this very interesting museum on trip advisor. Since I am particularly intereted in mineral rock and this being the only Quartz Museum in the world I decided to pay a visit. The location is beautiful in Sta Luzia Mountain with a great view of Viseu.
The Museum has a large collection of minerals from all over the world; has an interactive second level for students and aficionados like me. Our host was Adelino Figueiredo, the Engineer in charge of this Museum.he was informative, very pleasant and his passion for the place was obvious in his presentation. Please give yourself a treat and visit this very special place. They gave done an amazing job .

Something unique. Described as an ancient earth wall Arab barracks hence its octagonal shape!it It is said that exists only one other identical octogonal earth wall barracks in Iraq. It is a notable vestige of Arab military occupation of the Iberian peninsula, (in this region, during around centuries IX to XI). The octagonal wall of earth, is still noticeable mostly. There are indications of previous occupation, perhaps previous or contemporary to the time of the Celts. A Master Piece of History to study...
