We enjoyed the two cable car rides to reach the top of Gaislachkogl. Once there, we spent no more than 45 minutes enjoying the views, then returned to the middle station where there were far greater opportunities for walking. We took advantage of our Otztal card to pay for this this cable car ride - the rates without a card (37 euros per adult) were far too expensive for us to have considered the trip otherwise.
In all, I would recommend the Gaislachkoglbahn on a fine day to appreciate the views but would not consider it a 'must-do' activity if costs are an issue.

If you ever drive to Italy from Austria or vice versa don't cheat yourself for this trip through the Timmelsjoch pass via via Ötztal.
Narrow roads and some really amazing views - bring lunch and stop somewhere and enjoy it and the views.
Do remember cash for the toll road - no cards accepted last time I did the trip ;)

A Panorama bar near Wurmkogel peak, 3080 meters above the sea level.
What a fantastic restaurant, perched on the top / side of a mountain. The only problem with this small place it's it's size in relation to it's popularity - it doesn't take many people to make it full and the toilets certainly couldn't cope with the high number of guests.

With Otzi' annaversary approaching after our departure we were dissapointed to be leaving this wonderful hidden valley beforhand. We were lucky to see the return of 2000 and more sheep from The high pastures in Austria over the Alps and down into this largely unknown valley. We were so lucky!

The parking is great since you are right there and the staff at the ski service are very helpful. However, the map of the area shows red slopes from the top but when you get up there, they are all black. I have found this in other ski areas in Italy. Perhaps because the weather was very foggy and snowing, some trails were closed that I did not see. But in future, I will talk to the staff at the base to find out. The area is quite beautiful and the views are spectacular. The six seater chairlift is heated!

I understand this resort won't suit everyone and if you are one who wants to do loads of mileage and you are an expert skier, it probably isn't for you. However, for us, very active 50+ probably considered advanced skiers, it was perfect. The conditions were excellent, some of the views outstanding, skiing in and out of the hotel and slopes uncrowded, what more could you want. I didn't find any of the slopes massively challenging, even the blacks but that was fine all four of us would definitely return. Hochgurgl had more skiing for us but a 10 min bubble car is all it is each way, so very easy. I don't think I have ever been to a resort where there is virtually no queuing. Can't wait to go back.
