We enjoyed our tour on the private reserve. It was a bit long for some of our family but our guide really wanted to show us certain birds including the antpita. After the tour you go for a home made breakfast, which was delicious!

These two brothers were wonderful guides and are amazing stewards of the land. We saw so much! So glad we went. Prepare with bug spray and a good head lamp or flash light. At the end Humberto's family provided warm hospitality and we heard Enrique's stories. Don't use a tour company. This is the authentic CR experience!

Amazing work is done here! The volunteers care for the many cats and dogs. Everyone is compassionate and upbeat. We started as volunteers then adopted the first dog we tried (not too hard) to foster.Poloma is a love and El Refugio brought her back from the brink of starvation and ruin. We are so grateful! Please donate to them. They help to get medical care not just for those they care for but procure rides for animals to and from the vet not in their care. The community and the animals are fortunate to have them!

Parque Nacional Marino Ballena

Marino Ballena national park is an unique place that many tourists miss when they visit Costa Rica since it is tucked away from the main tourist hubs. I am conflicted writing this review since part of the beauty of this place is how unspoiled it is! Literally the jungle goes right to the beach. One of the highlights is walking out to the whale’s tail rock formation during low tide. Be sure to bring sun protection since it gets really hot and there is zero shade during the walk. The beach is not crowded and there is plenty of space to stretch out. Also some small rivers flow to the sea and I noticed quite a few bird watchers in the area. Uvita’s main restaurant strip is right outside the park entrance and it’s convenient to access for any food, drinks or snacks. Definitely I would highly recommend a visit for at least half a day.

Short easy hike from parking lot to beautiful secluded waterfall. Although I understand it can get crowded it wasn’t the morning we went. Got to watch people sliding down waterfall, but it is the “more adventurous “. They did look to be having great fun! Water cool and refreshing. Worth finding and the price of admission.

My 2 sisters and I booked the Sierpe Mangrove Boat Tour through the Uvita Information Center - the tour operator is La Perla del Sur. This is the 3rd year in a row we've taken this approximately 3-hour tour and we've loved it each time. It's a different experience each time and a great opportunity to see lots of wildlife up close (birds, bats, monkeys, turtles, crocodiles, snakes, etc.). Our guides were knowledgeable and the boat was comfortable - it was just us (not a group tour). Uvita Information Center makes booking online easy.

Taking place just a few minutes north of the village of Uvita, the Envision Festival at Rancho La Merced takes its festival-goers on a four day spiritual journey. Event attendees get the chance to experience music, art, yoga, performing arts, and educational events all in a beautiful setting where the Costa Rican mountains meet the Pacific Ocean.
