Trapani [ˈtraːpani] listen (help·info) (Sicilian: Tràpani; Latin: Drepanon, Greek: Δρέπανον) is a city and comune on the west coast of Sicily in Italy. It is the capital of the Province of Trapani. Founded by Elymians, the city is still an important fishing port and the main gateway to the nearby Egadi Islands.

One arrives in Erice via cable car from Trapani. Mount Erice is 750 meters (2,460 ft) above sea level (bring sweater?) overlooking the city of Trapani. The Pepoli Castle, which dates from Saracen times, and the Venus Castle, dating from the Norman period, was built on top of the ancient Temple of Venus where Venus Ericina was worshipped. This is where the son of Athena, goddess of love, built this Temple in his mother's honor. Walking the ancient stone streets, some light shopping, and enjoying the cafes makes for a magic day trip. One of the highlights of Erice is the visit to Mother's Church that has stood in Erice for more than 700 years, and the gorgeous Balio Gardens.

Read about this in a guidebook, but wasn't sure what to expect.
Actually a very interesting 90 minutes - saw flamingoes, saw men actually gathering salt from the field.
We bought 2kg of salt at the end - a sure sign that we liked what we heard and saw.

The bay is for most part a very rocky & tricky to walk on (trap-holes & sharp edges everywhere covered with algae but occasional patches of sand & blue sea if you pass the first 30m of shore) . Having spent 4 days in Trapani we chose this bay/beach to escape the folly crowds of more central Trapani . From that point of view baia cornino works just fine . I was molto "deluso" to see garbage scattered everywhere ... To all my Italian amici there are so many African jobless migrants who for a few euro would clean the beach with pleasure . Maybe sth to think of for local governance .

Please honor this place with piece and quiet. The Sicilians are truly, the kindest people in the world.
This part of world was invaded by all since Ancients times, because it is without question the most beautiful part of the world and every culture wanted to be a part of it.

Purée anything. Everything is cut fast, by hand. And it served at room temperature.
It is simply to hot to cook anything
If you don't like that, don't go.

The cable Car linking the city of Trapani to the medieval village of Erice Capital through their respective terminals, along a 3099-meters slant height, on the same path as the old cable Car that was operated between the 1950s and the 1970s. The cable car is a great way to get to Erice. There's plenty of parking at the base station and it takes around 15 minutes to reach Erice. Cost was 9€ per person return and was not busy. Lovely views!

People always talk about San Vito lo Capo Beaches, and actually they are beautiful, but unfortunately super-crowded in August.
We had the opportunity to enjoy Baia Santa Margherita that features and amazing view on the Cofano reserve and at the same time has crystal clear waters and a tenth of the crowds.
Good idea to block cars in summer at the remote parkings and offer the tourists with a free train ride to the beach.

The church alone is worth a visit but what makes it unique are the many figurines throughout which are made from wood, glue and preserved clothing. They are on plinths so really easy to view. They are carried out in the Good Friday procession. They are quite remarkable.

We strolled in with little time but interested in knowing about the wines of the label. Went straight to the shop and found a passionate lady that explained to us profusely about the different grapes and styles they had. Ended up buying on of each style and so far enjoying them very much! It's also possible to do wine tasting and eating.

After a rather negative experience at the Tourist Information point near Palazzo Senatorio, we experienced completely the opposite here. The kind young man tried to help us in any possible way. Gave us a map of the town and looked up information on the internet if he wasn't sure.

The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo is a beautiful Cathedral of the Roman Catholic church in Trapani, and is situated right in the heart of the old city surrounded by other buildings of great architectural heritage. Originally there was a chapel on the site constructed in 1102. The present day Cathedral is of the baroque classical style The construction started in 1421 with various renovations thereafter. The interior is well worth viewing - with its tranquil atmosphere, several important works of art and organs. The Cathedral has a spectacular portico which is marvelous to look at from the street and really brings a sense of dignity to this busy thoroughfare through the town.
