This is probably one of the most gorgeous hikes I've ever been on. A friend and I went on a tour of the caves with Cachamay (would definitely recommend following all of his advice– he knows the region well and can give you great food tips also!) and it was a good half day adventure.
We didn't bring enough water or put on enough sunscreen, so learn from our mistakes! Bring a backpack and more water than you think you'll need– there's a good portion at the end when you return to town where you'll be in direct sun without shade, so both of the aforementioned liquids will be much appreciated by your body.
The view is also stunning on the hike up, in the caves, exiting the caves, and walking back to town, so bring a camera if you like taking pictures!!
Also, don't do what we did and drink a lot the night before and return to your hostel at 6am for a 9am taking off to go hiking. Rest the night before. Every part of your body will thank you.

The Paleta del Pintor, or Painter's Palette in English, is a beautiful natural landscape located along the route to the other main attractions in Jujuy. If you're on a guided tour, you can assume that a stop at this spot will be included in the route, but if you're exploring the area on your own, you will want to make sure to pay attention so as not to miss it. Even a quick stop here will be worth it, as you will immediately recognize the meaning behind its name. A truly incredible sight to see!

For a small fee you can wander around the old ruins, town square and ancient dwellings. There is a gradual climb to the top, where you will find a rather strange modern building. The view here is superb. There are some huge old Cacti interspersed between the dwellings, a Llama farm and a cactus garden.

We set off on this walk early morning, although the initial trek is up hill and challenging it soon levels out before you reach the entrance. It's then steeply down and following the steam to reach the impressive waterfall. It's well worth the extra effort walking from Tilcara rather than taking the car.

This open-air hillside cemetery was ablaze with flowers on the day we saw it, Argentine Mother's Day. Many people were visiting and decorating graves. It was a beautiful sight in the setting sun.

Interesting aside on the road to/from Tilcara. It's a giant sundial by the side of the road. You can;t actually go right up to it, and it's easy to drive past - poorly sign posted, but keep your eyes open, it's worth a 5 min stop to stretch your legs
