Thunersee

This lake is gorgeous with the Alpine views and is easily accessible by public transportation. There are tons of places to eat, drink and shop in the town so it's worth a stop even if only for a couple hours. We stayed one night and strolled through the town and along the lake to the Schadau Park. It's really nice and from what we saw of Interlakken, staying in Thun was a good choice.

We arrived by boat to spend a couple of hours. The castle was closed Monday, the day we arrived, but that didn't hinder us from walking the grounds. The weather Es magnificent.
I was amazed at the structure from the outside, it's surrounding buildings as well.
The grounds are well kept with many difference species of flowers, plants, and trees.
We walked the perimeter, the garden growth tunnel provided us with some much needed shade. Three openings in the hedge offered spectacular views of the Lake and surrounding Mountains.
We happened upon a playground which we enjoyed as we made our way back to the entrance. A lovely stop indeed. You'll be glad you visited.
Peace, Matt

Schloss Hunegg Hilterfingen

HÜNEGG CASTLE A fairytale castle on the shores of Lake Thun Hünegg was built between 1861 and 1863 and is modelled after the ones of the French Loire region. The castle museum is dedicated to the residential decor of the Art Nouveau and Historicism periods and gives the impression that time has stood still since 1900. A carefully designed public park surrounds the castle and features native and exotic trees, many of which date back to the castle’s construction.

The castle on Lake Thun stands in a delightful park surrounded by venerable old trees just above the road from Thun to Interlaken (Gunten side of the lake).
It was built by Baron Albert Emil Otto von Parpart (1813 – 1869), from 1861 to 1863 and partly modernized around the turn of the century. The Baron was an further officer of the prussin army. He chose the style of the renaissance Loire Castles.
The castle got transformed by the next owner, the architect Heino Schmieden (1835 - 1913) in 1900. Since it is unchanged.
The Castle of Hünegg is not an ordinary museum with collections. It looks as if time has stood still and the owners have just left and will return at any moment.
There are sometimes special expostions. When we visited it was an interesting show about mountain Railways etc. There was a locomotive of the Brenz-Rothorn railway in the park of the castle.
This castle is very nice. The entrance fee is moderate. I would recommend it for a visit.

I was disappointed by this suspension bridge...first because it's "enclosed" on all sides so you don't really get the feeling you are suspended in air; guess it feels too safe for me and secondly because its too expensive at 8CHF...I just didn't feel it was worth it.

I took the train to Thun and then picked up bus # 25 just outside the train station (tickets can be bought onboard or at the small station next to the buses). The last bus stop puts you within 2 minutes walk to the suspension bridge...8 CHF allows you over and back plus entrance to the national park and some drink deal at a local hotel. It takes all of 5-7 minutes to walk across. Views are nice, but not super and for me no wow factor and defiantly NOT scary at all.
Hiking from there is all downhill or you can take bus # 25 down the hill to Gunten main street and either pick-up the BLS boat at the dock area or bus # 21 going towards Interlaken. I took #21 and stopped at Beatushohlen to see St. Beatus caves, then continued on #21 into Interlaken Ost. Despite the suspension bridge being a let down, it made for a nice day.

My family and I were extremely impressed with the knowledge and personality of Monika. She is a native Swiss citizen and speaks fluently in the native languages of Switzerland and English. Originally we have booked our private tour with a colleague of hers, who was also excellent, but when he had a conflict arise Monika was asked to substitute. We were not disappointed. She had taken the time to learn what important to us in our original private tour request and she made it a point to make things special.
She picked us up at our hotel in Zurich and we had a great day touring Lucerne, riding across the lake, and driving the Pragelpass road. We saw a small local cheese production facility (awesome cheese) and stopped at the Laderach Chocolate factory. We had such a good time, that Monika elected to go to dinner with us and we stopped to “smell the roses” in the rose garden by the church in Rapperswil.
Monika was exceptional and it was her small touches made the tour great. Her colleague Erwin had discovered I enjoyed dark beers and sent a small bottle of a local beer “das dunkle” for me to sample at the end of our second day. My wife and I mentioned we enjoyed fresh strawberries and the strawberries were in season in June, so while we were on the boat ride from Lucerne to Vitznau Monika stopped to pick up some fresh strawberries, which were superb. The weather was excellent and this only added to the experience. That evening she emailed us some pictures she had taken own her own that were part of our day.
I would definitely recommend Monika’s services and I encourage everyone to take the time to make your tour personal, it’s worth it!

This is a review of the Niederhorn itself and not the restaurant at the summit.
I'd visited this area before but never been up the cable car to the Niederhorn - what a lovely place this was, in warm hazy sunlight, with wonderful views across the whole chain of Bernese Alps, Interlaken, and Lake Thun. There are also views over the nearby Justis Valley from the summit of the mountain (in the other direction), but be careful as, although the edge is fenced off, there is a long sheer drop down.
Lots of paragliders taking off and soaring against the fabulous backdrop of the Alps.
The Niederhorn can be accessed from Interlaken either by taking a postbus to Beatenberg or a bus to Beatenbucht and then the funicular to Beatenberg. From Beatenberg the cable car goes up in two stages and there is a restaurant at both the summit and the halfway stage at Vorsass. We found extremely friendly cows at Vorsass! There is a discount on the cable car if you have a Swiss Travel Pass.

Took a boat ride from Interlaken and chanced upon Spiez. I fell in love with this small little town immediately. Most people would give this place a miss as they probably have the tendency to complete the boat ride from Interlaken to Thun and vice versa. If you have ample time, I would encourage you to alight at the Spiez ferry and take a walk around the town before hopping back to the boat or to Spiez train station.
Just around the corner of the Spiez ferry, there is the Schloss Park and Spiez Schloss. Head up there and you will enjoy a beautiful view of the town and the Marina. It was wonderful observing children and families having fun in the waters on a hot summer day. Its a pity that I did not manage to visit the museum at Spiez Schloss due to time constraint.
Spiez may not be as big or as well known as Thun or Interlaken, but it definitely has its own unique charm and I look forward to return to this small little town again!

Our family of four rented a river raft from Aare Tubing on a recent visit to Bern. We spent four hours rafting down the beautiful, clear Aare River, as a self guided outdoor adventure. The staff was helpful, friendly, promptly respondd to all of my emails and spoke good English. They provided all the gear and instructions that we needed to enjoy this trip. We stopped along the river to swim, eat a light snack, and it was worth the time to experience this beautiful river. There was a tram stop near the take out at the end of our trip, which brought us back to Old Town in Bern. The equipment was clean and in great shape. The Aare requires little paddling experience, you simply float down the river, enjoying the magnificent scenery, and with a little bit of steering, its very easy to navigate the boat. We would highly recommend this trip to others who enjoy the great outdoors!
