Eccentric House

Reviewed By John F - Savannah, Georgia

We live two blocks from the Lapham-Patterson House . While it is visually arresting from the sidewalk, the inside is dreary and disappointing; much is made of the original family -- people who were of no particular interest at all. I'd say skip it, Instead, go to Pebble Hill Plantation. WOW!!!

Sweet Grass Dairy Marketplace

Awesome cheese and awesome beer (and wine).

We fell through the doors here one afternoon as it was open during Thomasville's decent and respectable opening hours (so similar to England in the 1980s).

Brilliant choice.

Awesome service (the bar staff serve tables as well, so be patient). Cheese boards are tremendous with the wine and beer.

The beer. Wow. I hate strong beer. I'm a volume man. One gallon is not uncommon for me. So I avoid anything over 5% abv. But the barman - a bearded local guy with a fantastic sense of humour- knew his ales and I ended up trying the 8.2% ale which scarily tasted like only a 5%!!

Also try their pimento dip. By far the best in Thomasville.

Maybe Georgia.

Maybe the WORLD!!

Jack Hadley Black History Museum

Reviewed By jandc5744 - Pinellas Park, Florida, USA

We visited Jack's museum - but he was on vacation. What a shame as I'm sure he would have lent some additional information to the displays. He captures several areas of Black culture in different sections of the museum, including sports, entertainment, military, and of course, civil rights. He also has a large section that covers the local history, and it is indeed a rich one.
The museum is housed in the now closed Douglass High School - a black school that thrived in the 50s and 60s - so it felt like walking into someone's home, with each room set up to display different artifacts he has collected over the years. These include newspaper clippings, photographs, display ads, uniforms, antiques, furniture, and other memorabilia. It is well worth the visit, and includes a short video that explains the most famous graduate of the closed high school, a Henry Flipper. The staff was friendly and helpful.
