At Kadathanadan Kalari Centre ,Thekkady, this martial art is performed in kuzhikalari.A highly designed gallery has been built in such a way that the viewers will get a clear vision from a safer distance. Kalaripayattu is a traditional psycho-physiological discipline emanating from Kerala's uniqe mytho-historical heritage as well as a scientific system of physical culture training. The performers in the Kadathanadan Kalari were top class. They could keep the overcrowded gallery spell bound with exquisite and breathtaking numbers. The passage of a whole hour could be realised only when they ended the show. A must see in one's life time. Used to watching full scal Kathakali Performances, it was given a go by.

Its an amazing place to absorb Kerala culture. We enjoyed a one hour Kathakali show with detailed explanations and then another one hour breathtaking martial arts show. The artists and performers are too good. The young boys of martial art pack a lot of energy....so brave....they impress foreign tourists too.

Periyar Lake

Reviewed By Vicki B - London, United Kingdom

I would recommend the Periyar lake boat ride as the best chance at spotting some of the larger wild animals on the reserve. Nature is completely unpredictable so there are no guarantees you will see any wildlife, these animals are wild and don't keep to tourists schedules! However opting for the 3.30pm ride means your are more likely to see animals coming to the lakeside for a drink after the midday sun.

Gavi Forest

Reviewed By NKRajput - Mumbai, India

Gavi Eco Tourism, lots of people are still not aware that Gavi has staying facility as well.
As recommended by my friend we booked Swiss cottage package.. this package included stay, food, jungle safari, boating and trekking. A dedicated guide is provided by them who will get your plan done perfectly.
The Swiss tent cottages are bang on the river side... Amazing location, boating was just amazing. As an avid birder I was quite satisfied... Got to see Malabar Grey Hornbill, yellow browed bulbul. And many many more... Malabar Giant Squirrels are in abundance can't miss them.
Most of the tourist comes for a days visit from Periyar. Worth a visit to this amazing location.
Remember no mobile network works apart from BSNL.
We stayed for 24hours, which was just out of the world. Things can improve, staying facility is basic, but one can just enjoy.

Our guide had heard that there were elephants seen by an earlier tour so we set off at a cracking pace to see if we could find them We encountered two separate groups - the first was two adult females and a juvenile calf; the second was two males fighting as well as two females with a baby. Our guide also pointed out some of the magnificent birds to be found in the reserve. Terrific guide and a great day.

There is also a shop that sells farm fresh spices.

There are many offers for "spice walks" in and around Thekkady. But most set foot into a garden where the "guides" talk a very short walk and explain bushes, herbs and trees with its value for mankind. Everything is "very good for your health". Even varicose veins would disappear after one month, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases. Why has industry not responded yet?? Eventually, you end up in the farms shop where you (have to) can buy the wonderful stuff.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

The local government bus que is Always Long to get to the sanctuary but buses come regularly and it doesn’t take long to get to the reserve about ten mins. Then off the bus and more queuing to get tickets for boat trip. Best get in this que as soon as possible because tickets are linked to seat numbers and position on boat. Lots of people queuing but lots of boats so although doesn’t seem enough boats the government officials soon get everyone on board a boat. Beware of monkeys whilst waiting to board boat as although they looked small and cute they were prone to biting. We took the 3.30pm boat and was lucky and saw a herd of 7 elephants numerous bison in herds and deer and lots of birds. Off the boat you have to que again for bus back to town.
