I bought some wine here and the wines are good and have lots of potential. I expect this winery to go places. Anyone buying wine in Quebec should know that wines here do not taste like chardonnay, pinot noir or Cabernet Savignon. They have very luscious flavors, but are different. if you are willing to try tastes that are different than the standard wines, then give this place a stop on your wine tour. I expect great improvements from them as their experience grows.

Chapelle Ste Agnes Vineyard

DESCRIPTION: Located in the Sutton Mountains of southern Quebec, the Chapelle Ste Agnes vineyard was established in 1997 by Henrietta Antony, a Montreal antique dealer and is family-owned. Today, you can enjoy a Guided Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting, purchase wine, stay at one of the Rooms or Suites, or plan an Event on the estate. The vineyard is named after a stone chapel built several years earlier on the same site and consecrated to Saint Agnes, a thirteenth century Bohemian saint. The vineyard which also offers lodging year around, has almost 7000 vines and is focused on the production of icewine and other dessert wines and a limited amount of white table wine and rose. Built on a steep hillside with massive stone walls supporting 18 terraces, the rows of vines follow the gentle curve of the hillside, creating a veritable Amphitheatre. The cellars of the Chapelle Ste Agnes vineyard are a large medieval style underground complex, where temperature and humidity are almost constant year round. The cellars consist of four underground levels, and feature a number of stone barrel and cross vaults that were built by a master stone cutter from France and by vault masters from southern Moravia. In order to build these vaults, dozens of varying and specialized forms needed to be constructed. The end result is a medieval style cellar complex dedicated to the production and storage of our wines. The vineyard is located about 1 hour 20 minutes from Montreal, just a couple of miles north of the Vermont border. We are also located in the Eastern Townships which is a beautiful part of Quebec and offers many interesting and tasty restaurants, B&B's, is home to many high-end craftsmen and artists, and provides a wonderful playground for sports enthusiasts. DISTANCE from: Montreal 111 Km 69 miles 1HR 20MIN Burlington 116 Km 72 miles 1HR 15MIN Boston 400 Km 249 miles 4HR New York 639 Km 397 miles 6HR 30MIN. ACCOMMODATIONS: New in 2015: you can also stay at the vineyard in one of our Rooms or Suites (min 2 days stay). Please refer to our website for more info. VISITS: Visits are possible year-round and they are always guided. IN SEASON: From JUNE 1st until the end of OCTOBER, every WEDNESDAY and SUNDAY at 1:30pm, we have our classic 2-hour "Open Tours". Anyone can attend and NO RESERVATION is required. Plan on a pleasant 2-hour visit to learn about the Romanesque stone chapel, vineyard, medieval cellars and to participate in the wine tasting. COST: Visits cost $20 (taxes included) per person , or $30 per person when including a wine tasting session of several vintages. NOTE: If you are a group of a minimum of 8 persons, you may like to make a reservation for a private visit according to your schedule. This tour must be booked ahead of time by email or by telephone. It also lasts 2 hours and the fees are $20 and $30 as above. Please call or email us to make arrangements. If one shows up on the estate, in season (June1 to end October), at any other time between 10am and 5pm without a reservation, you have an excellent chance of partaking in a shorter 30 minute "Mini Tour and Wine Tastings" at $10 (taxes included) for the visit only, or $20 per person when including a wine tasting session of several vintages. IMPORTANT: An exception to our capability to offer the "Mini Tour" would be some Saturday afternoons as the estate does host private events, particularly weddings. Should you have any further questions on planning an event or regarding accommodations at the vineyard, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to welcoming you to our vineyard in the near future! Chapelle Ste Agnes Vineyard - John Antony

We arrived at the winery and were immediately struck by how uninspiring the chapel was as well as the winery itself. Scenery along the wine route is just as impressive as the site of this winery. Unless you want to taste and buy ice wines of average quality, give this a miss. I also want to mention that the attitude of the staff who greeted us, after making us wait a few minutes, was less than welcoming.

A local artist bought this former church and has turned it into a beautiful light filled art gallery. On our visit we saw a really impressive exhibition by another local artist that was of an extremely high quality. Apparently the Exhibitions will change regularly and the owner will also be giving classes in her own workshop which is in the basement. Note that it is generally closed in the early part of the week. The gallery is just off Sutton's main street. Well worth a visit.

What a great space! Seating is around small tables and the place probably doesn't hold more than 100 people so no matter where you sit you are really close to the show. We saw a jazz group and the acoustics were pretty good. There is a small bar for drinks at the back of the hall - not a lot of choice but a glass of local wine and a beer were all we needed.
Apparently shows change all the time but are mostly on Friday and Saturday nights.I get the sense that things are mostly in French but with music it doesnt really matter!
Tip - It can be tricky to find! It is on Maple, just off the main street, down a "corridor" between a gift shop and Le Pleasant hotel.

This aerial treetop adventure is not to be missed so long as you have a head for heights! You get from one tree to another in all sorts of ways : by zipline, tightrope, swinging logs, swings etc etc. At points you may be 60 feet up in the trees and although firmly attached by a climbing harness and carabiners it still feels challenging especially of you make it to the giant tarzan swing at the last of the four levels. The kids in our group absolutely loved the thrill of it as did the adults albeit at a slower pace. Note that there is a minimum height requirement and that you should book in advance. The site itself is in a beautiful maple forest and is run as a coop by local young people who did a really good job in welcoming us and giving a training session before we set off.

Musee des Communications et d'Histoire

Also known as the Sutton Museum, our museum has more than 1200 artefacts on permanent exhibit. The museum also hosts temporary Exhibitions revolving around the history of the town of Sutton, located in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Blogs on all the Exhibitions that were presented in recent years are available online. Various contests are also presented since the fall of 2009 and won popular successes. All links are in the right column. Enjoy your visit! From May 16th to October 26th 2014, the museum present Gerald Bull, tje Rocket Man.

This was a disappointment. We had come because of a special show about the local resident, Gerald Bull, who was an internationally famous artillery expert and who is today best known for designing a giant gun for Saddam Hussein in order to threaten Israel, but we were also interested in Sutton’s history during the failed “Great Experiment.”
The Bull exhibit (a single room) was well-put-together with professionally made placards and samples of projectiles and such on which he had worked, but so much was missing and there wasn’t much of an attempt to pull his work together in a coherent whole. Unless one was cognizant about the context and facts of Bull’s life, it would be very hard to leave with anything more than flash-bulb images.
The rest of the museum is worse. We never found anything that could be linked to prohibition, despite a large sign about it on the outside of the museum. What it was was a collection of STUFF thrown together with only a nod to coherence and significance. Some of it was quite interesting, but just what Edison’s early “talking machine/recorder” and a number of teletypes had to do with a town in Quebec is something about which I can not guess.

All this would have been improved by the presence of a single staff member or docent. However, the only person available was a young man taking the entry fee who spoke limited English.
The museum has a lot of potential, but as it stands now, people are being charged admission to a warehouse.
