The College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts of Canada

Reviewed By LovesToTravel716 - Worcester, Massachusetts

I have been fascinated with the bagpipes since I was a little girl. I had visited The College of Piping a few years back and told myself I would come back, at some point, to start my lessons. After being downsized out of my job in "Corporate America," I made the decision to enroll in one of their week long programs in July 2017. The staff here is nothing short of AMAZING! I had many questions before I enrolled (and then a few after I enrolled). Rachel Kitts at the Front Office was so helpful in answering all of my questions and providing helpful information as far as lodging options and suggestions for other things to do while I was staying in Summerside. As I was traveling from Massachusetts, I wanted to take full advantage of everything the College of Piping had to offer during my week long stay. I opted to take 2 one hour lessons each morning, with a one hour break in between (that I used to practice). It was an honor and privilege to be able to take lessons with James and Kylie MacHattie each day. They are both wonderful instructors and had a lot of patience with me throughout the week. Some days were a bit more overwhelming for me as I completed my lessons and several hours of practice. But I was determined my practice chanter would not get the best of me! I learned so much during my time here. If only it wasn't a 10 hour drive for me, I would be here all the time! A big thanks to Rachel, James, Kylie, and the rest of the staff for providing me such an AMAZING experience. You're all THE BEST!! THANK YOU!!

Harbourfront Theatre

Harbourfront Theatre opened its doors in 1996, the result of more than a decade of tireless effort on the part of a group of Summerside citizens with a vision to create a state of the art, multi purpose performing arts facility in Prince County. The theatre, along with the Eptek Art & Culture Centre and the Summerside Visitor Information Centre, is housed in The Wyatt Centre, aptly named after one of the facility's major contributors, Dr. Wanda Wyatt. Harbourfront Theatre is owned by Regional Cultural Events Centre Inc., a registered non-profit organization managed by a board of directors, general manager, and director of operations, and boasts a friendly, knowledgeable, professional staff and a dedicated core of over 90 volunteers. Its Mission is "to provide a continuous live entertainment service to the Prince Edward Island community and its visitors, featuring both local and touring productions, while being a significant driving force within the community to encourage and nurture the development and appreciation of the performing arts." The facility is ideally suited to a myriad of uses, including plays, Concerts, opera, ballet, comedy & magic shows, conferences, seminars, receptions, business mixers, trade shows and public forums. Beautifully appointed and state of the art equipped, the Harbourfront Theatre represents the best of both worlds - large enough to host renowned touring acts, yet small enough so that every one of its 527 seats captures a uniquely intimate performer/audience experience.

We were visiting friends on Prince Edward Island (PEI). They purchased tickets to the Harbourfront Theatre for the 20th anniversary of the theatre. Fidler's Son and the Ellis Family Band were playing that night. The concert hall was sold out so I was expecting a nice evening of music. The concert was great as both bands were local to the island. I wasn't sure how good the concert would be but was very surprise once both bands played. A great venue in an unexpected place!

Linkletter Provincial Park

This small campground is pretty much no frills, open camping on a flat grassy area along the water. The first day we were there it was very windy and cold but then the weather changed and it was warm, sunny, and breezy the next few days. Our site was moguled, pitted, and extremely difficult to get our 35' trailer situated. We set up and tore down twice. First time our electric cord didn't reach, then our sewer hose, then we couldn't get it level!! FINALLY, after much frustration we found the sweet spot. Once we were set up we thoroughly enjoyed this peaceful campground and sitting on our noll overlooking the water. The bath houses were very neat and clean with spacious showers. This campground is located within approximately 2 miles at the confederation trail, several minutes from Summerside, 30 minutes to Malpeque Bay, 45 min to Cavendish, 1 hour to Charlottetown, 1 hr 45 min to St Peters Village.

I really enjoyed the current Eric Schurman exhibit, and found that this was a very pleasant place to spend a little time. It's small, so it can be a pretty quick visit, but I look forward to coming back and seeing what they have on in the future.

Summerside Range Lighthouse Front

Reviewed By James H - Titusville

A second lighthouse that you can drive to is easily seen from the highway. There is another similar one just a little way further away from the shore and looks very similar in construction. Hopefully this is the right one for this review. It is in good shape but open to the public. You can get a picture of the lighthouse in the bay in the background. You can walk around this lighthouse, but nor much parking. won't take long to snap a picture.

Slemon Park Historical Aircraft Static Display

Reviewed By Glenda M - Port Hawkesbury, Canada

My husband and I stopped by to take a look at the museum-type display of antique aircraft on display on a drive out to Slemon Park this past summer. It was tastefully and pleasantly landscaped with various flowers and shrubs lining the lovely brick walkway path that winds in and around the displays, together with engraved plaques bordering the path that display the names of many aviation service personnel. The display is just off the highway and overlooks a wide-open field. There were a number of picnic table type Seating areas to sit and rest, and to take in the lovely soft ocean breezes and the warm golden glow of the magic hour sunlight. A great place to just stroll and take in the lovely surroundings.
