Stockbridge is a town in Berkshire County in western Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,947 at the 2010 census. A year-round resort area, Stockbridge is home to the Norman Rockwell Museum, the Austen Riggs Center (a noted psychiatric treatment center), and Chesterwood, home and studio of sculptor Daniel Chester French.

Never really knew much about Norman Rockwell except I liked some of his paintings. I learned alot about him & very much enjoyed seeing every painting he ever did! For those who have never been to tanglewood I highly recommend it. This is one of the few places that is absolutely incredible...I have seen many concerts here from the BSO as well as individual artists. It is a great place for family or romantic or even individuals. You can do your own thing at your own pace..A MUST VISIT...

A gem no doubt, I recommend this hike for just about everyone except those on wheelchairs. With something for everyone, there is an easy route a moderate route with a hike along the top that will get your heart pumping. It was packed on Saturday so come early. Hint: pay for parking before you go - I missed it completely and found a note on my car gently reminding me of my financial obligation to pay- nice touch. I promptly and happily paid my 5 bucks at the kiosk. With the fall foliage, you’d have an even better experience if you go now, but would be a great hike anytime.

As others have said you really need to know your prices when you are shopping if you are going to get a great deal. WE spent the better part of a rainy day here it was fun, it was interesting. We did buy a few things from 6 of the stores. The food court was impressive, large selection from different vendors. The thanksgiving wrap at Thats a Wrap was delicious

Pros: Hip bar with good beer list and good lunch pub food in an unusual open setting. Cons: Only open for lunch on weekends. Call for hours. A little pricey for New York but this is the Bershires!

Any Catholic would find this Shrine worth the visit. The grounds were covered in snow, but the sculptures were beautiful. The church is reminiscent of churches before Vatican II. Very peaceful and beautiful place. The gift shop has an outstanding collection of Catholic gifts.

Our two couples visited this attraction with no knowledge of its significance - we knew nothing of Edith Wharton or her writings (much to our embarrassment.) Our experience there encouraged us to learn more and delve into her literary works, especially Age of Innocence. The admission price was moderate and well worth the information we gained. This attraction may not be to everyone's liking, but it is well worth exploring for most.

Who would have thought you could find a tribute to the animation/special effects of some of Hollywood’s major motion pictures and commercials in the Berkshire Mountains. We found it at the Animagic Museum in Lee, MA. Animagic is museum created by Academy Award winning special effects creator Eugene Mamut - special effects animator for movies such as Predator, Star Trip Trooper, Matrix and the Blue Lagoon from his studio in the Berkshires. Animation/special effect of many other Hollywood movies like 2001 Space Odyssey, Silent Running, Chicken Run and many commercials were also in the Berkshires by other artists. This museum is showcase for all the animation/special effects artists and work done in the region.
During a 20 min guided tour, Mamut will lead you through the history of how the animation/special effects industry started and grew in the Berkshires. You will get to see and hear the secrets of how special effects and animation are done with some amazing surprises. Like a face whose eyes and head appear to move and follow you - as you walk by - without any electronics involved. There are original animation models used in commercials on display and Mamut tells the how stop motion photography was used create these commercials. Mamut shared stories of creating the camouflage special effect feature of the movie Predator or how the 360-degree-traveling-bullet scenes from the Matrix where made. As a joke, how he fooled people on the streets by making his own head and stomach appear to disappear when walking through town.
The museum has photos of Academy award ceremonies for various animation/special effects artists of the region including Mamut himself for Predator. There are various toys and souvenirs that illustrate animation/special effect techniques that can be purchased at the museum
Tours of the museum are by appointment and are free. Mamut does request a donation of $5/ person which is completely discretionary. For a cost of $20 you can create your own stop motion, clay figure, animated movie that is uploaded to Youtube. It usually takes 2 hours to create your clay model, create the stop action movie and then add background and music to the scene. Mamut will upload your movie to Youtube.
This is our second trip to tour Animagic. The first time was 10 years ago when my daughters and my niece were teenagers. Back then the three made stop action, animated movies that were burned upon disk to take home. This year we repeated the experience with my granddaughter where my two adult daughters watched on.
There is lot of parking convenient to the museum with a municipal parking lot at Railroad Street and Consolati Way in Lee, MA

Schantz Galleries is first and foremost an art gallery designed to sell art. However, it is worth a trip even if you are not in the market for art. There is always a beautiful selection of art to admire and in many ways, it's like going to a museum! In particular, if you are a Dale Chihuly fan, this is a must see

We visited Ozzie's and were warmly welcomed by Michael and family! It was hard to decide what to purchase this time. Michael is a wonderfully talented artist and his work is beautifully crafted and thought out. We brought home a unique hummingbird and a "twirly gig" to catch sunlight in our windows. We will be back next year!
