10 Things to Do in St. Anton am Arlberg That You Shouldn't Miss

March 17, 2018 Enriqueta Cusson

One of the Tirol area's most popular ski resorts, St. Anton offers some of the best expert skiing and one of the liveliest après-ski scenes in the Arlberg region. The Valluga, Kapall, and Schindler peaks offer almost a mile of vertical skiing. For the seasoned, Schindlerkar and Mattun are less groomed routes.

St. Anton

One of the more popular ski resorts in the Tirols.

No question - St Anton is not a place for beginners or even lower intermediate skiers. The runs can be challenging. However, it is fabulous if you are a competent skier. With the new Flexenbahn lift you can easily move across a broad range of slopes from town to town - through the areas of Zurs, Lech and all the way to Warth. Each has its own personality. Views are dramatic throughout the ski area. There is a wide range of places to eat with well-made Austrian specialties. In March we never experienced more than about 5 minutes wait at lifts. One of the best places to ski which had the least crowds was on the Albonagrat. Be sure to ski over to Lech and take the Rufikopf gondola to a long blue run that feels like you are on top of the world. One warning - the long 100 run to the base of the Flexenbahn has steep pitches, a lot of skiers and can get bumpy. The town has a nice Main Street with a good range of restaurants and bars.

Skirunde Der Weisse Ring

Skiing has been celebrated at the White Ring for over 60 years and the legendary race of the same name has been taking place for 11 years. For winter sports enthusiasts the White Ring presents a sporting challenge with about 22 km of skiing pistes, 5,500 m of difference in altitude and a sightseeing tour with viewing platforms.

Have done this a few times and always try and do it again when in Lech. The new lifts over from St Anton make it possible to do this if staying there as well.
Highlights are always the views and also the ski routes - if your a normal on piste skier they can give you some good challenging moments but still pretty well groomed.
Low point is the polling ... some of the runs are dubiously connected!

Visited the museum as 1. It was free with the tourist summer card/pass and 2. I had a free afternoon.
As we approached the building it was apparent that the garden area was lacking attention and not many people were dining at the café.
Inside the museum, the story of ski sport in St Anton was well told if presented in a rather old fashioned manner with an ability to be a patient reader a plus point. There was a black and white silent video that was quite amusing.

At the southern end of the village of Saint Anton, a lift will take you to the mid-base of the Rendl ski area, away from the more popular crowds skiing Alberg.
An on-mountain eatery has all the usual amenities and comforts to warm and stop during your day here. A bit of a terrain park can also be found, along with a good variety of Red & Black runs
The grooming here was better than elsewhere, perhaps due to less people making their way to this destination area, whereas other Alberg skiing lets you continue on to further areas like St Christoph, Zurs etc
Certainly worth a day's skiing when visiting Saint Anton

Die Kirche von St. Jakob

Reviewed By Kevin F - Lincoln, United Kingdom

This beautiful church is situated in the small hamlet of St Jakob, which is by some, considered to be part of St Anton. It is easliy reached by the Number 2 bus which stops right outside. I can only describe this church and ajoining graveyard as outstandingly beautiful. It is extremely clean and well kept, in a lovely setting and truly magnificent. I have never been so overwhelmed by a church, especially in such a small hamlet. The graveyard overlooks the valley with great views. It is well worth a visit.
