Hollywood beckons to tourists who long for a brush with Tinseltown glamor. Tour movie studios, slip your hands into the famous prints at the TCL Chinese Theatre, or indulge in a celeb sighting at one of LA’s white-hot nightspots. Spot your favorite star while shopping at The Grove, or forget all about the famous eye candy as you take in the iconic artwork at The Getty Center. For a different type of star-gazing, peek through the telescopes at the Griffith Observatory.

Axe throwing spot to release your inner lumberjack (or just release some stress in general). Came here in a big group (10 of us) without a reservation to do an hour of axe-throwing ($25 per person for an hour). Bear in mind that it’s not a full hour of axe-throwing - rather, you alternate with other parties and take turns. The workers do their best to make sure that everyone spends an equal amount of time throwing axes and do a good job of explaining safety measures and will also help with your technique by watching you throw. Parking is available in the back although there is some street parking available. The lot is immediately after the building and there’s a small sign indicating it’s presence. You have to go down an alley to reach the back so be conscious of others cars coming in and out since the space is a bit narrow. Once you enter you can sign the waiver at the tablets to the right, and can check in/pay with the staff at the front counter. They do take credit card and there’s even a little souvenir shop to the left if you want to buy some shirts or memorabilia. Bathrooms are to the left and the axe throwing for reserved parties are right behind the check in counters, while walk-ins are in the back. There’s a bar that serves alcohol as well as food. They even have a CBD tea (which tastes yummy and like a faint peach, but didn’t really do anything beyond that). For the actual axe throwing, you’re given hatchets but have the option to throw the heavier, larger axes if you make a reservation. There’s plenty of seating and it’s a good large group activity, although I saw plenty of people on dates as well. Overall, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon and to do something novel.

This was so much fun!! Our two boys and their friend (ages 10, 13, and 15) absolutely loved it. We did Deadwood Mansion which is a zombie shooter game, and I was freaked out in the best way. It felt so realistic that you forget you are in a small green room. They were very helpful with instructions. Definitely want to go back and do the other stories. You will not regret booking this!

Runyon Canyon Park

Located off Mulholland Drive in the Hollywood Hills, this park is especially loved by dog-lovers since they can hike with their dogs without a leash.

Runyon Canyon is convenient to get to and offers great views of the city. It is quite popular, so you will not be alone on this hike. You can start at the top of the canyon off of Mulholland Drive, but I like to start from the bottom at the Vista Gate, because there is a steep hill up to the gate before you even enter the park. I also like to do the Hero's Trail, which is the most difficult and steep of the hikes available in the park. If you enter through the Vista Gate, as you go up the road past the water fountain, take the first left after the interior gate and you will be on the Hero's Trail. You can also just follow the road up and back to stay on pavement the whole time. If you go on a day after it rains, you can see beautiful views of Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean, as well as of the whole city. It is a beautiful spot and a place to get some great exercise hiking some steep hills. (photos taken on various hikes over the years)

Hollywood Bowl Overlook

Reviewed By MichaelLong1963 - Colorado Springs, United States

Many people don't know this but the Hollywood Bowl is FREE including the 2 level museum located there. They even offer FREE tours of the Hollywood Bowl for groups of 10 or more. They do close it at times according to the concerts/shows they have going on so you should check their web site of call them to ensure that's it's open during the time of your visit. It's definitely a neat place to visit and so many entertainers have performed there including the Beatles. The views of this historic entertainment center are beautiful. It's located right off the 101 & Highland exit but I didn't notice a lot of parking available at the venue. My visit was before the virus that essentially closed the Los Angeles area so I don't know what it may be like under current restrictions or even if it's open to the public for free touring. If you're in the Hollywood area I definitely would recommend taking the time to checkout the historic Hollywood Bowl. There are a lot of steps so if you have problems with stairs or walking then this attraction could be more challenging even though I imagine they have elevators or ramps for wheelchairs.
