This bridge was very famous as incredibly beautiful place among tourists from overseas. I've found it on a English media when I knew this place first. I thought the ocean in Japan was not very beautiful. However, this place is completely different from other ocean in Japan. Blue and clear ocean. nice weather. In addition, a long long straight bridge stretches on the ocean. Its view was perfect!!

Very nicely designed aquarium and it's very attractive to younger children. We also loved the dolphin restaurant very much. A cozy walking by the sea or to go to the playground next to the aquarium could be considered after visiting aquarium.

Kyushu Railway Museum
The museum (former Kyushu Railway HQ building) is just next to Mojiko Train Station. I think the museum location is befitting as Mojiko is the starting point of Kyushu railway in the past. When cargo unloaded from the ships in the port, you would require the railway system to transport them out to the various places. That is why the moment you step out of the train at Mojiko Station, you may see a plaque with a bell that states Mojiko as the “0” mark of the starting point of Kyushu then railway.
The museum showcases Kyushu railway history with many old train engines and facilities on display. There are high tech simulator for you to try your hands at piloting a train. There is mini train model show as well. It provides insight into Kyushu rail past.

Wonderful Turquoise sea with tranquility. If you find Coral blue beach a bit crowded, visit the beach near the museum &camp site. The light house is also worth a climb.

Part of Mojiko Retro the Observatory is well worth an hour of your time when there. Take the fast lift upto the top of the tower about 105m I think and just take in the stunning views across the harbour, the Kanmon Straights, across to Honshu Island etc. Staff were really helpful when we visited; went out of way to find a map in English for us and came and found us to give it to us, Nice little cafe at the top as well, so you can have a snack and a drink whilst you soak up the views.

A fully tourity spot with most of the food stalls trying to sell foods to the local and foreign visitors. Having said that, the foods are very fresh and reasonably priced. A lot of fun as one could try many different foods before one made the decision to purchase. There were also stalls selling dried sea food products. The market was very busy and was fun to visit.

we saw the channel from both sides(honshu and kyushu),Up from Hinoyama obserbatory and below the Kanmon bridge, also under the channel through Kanmon tunnel. 3 historical sight ,the battle area between Genji samurai and Heike samurai,the duel place at Ganryu island off Shimonoseki water ,the war beating antiforein Tyosyu by British powerful cannon, which are noticable for people who like history.

It seems many locals use this tunnel as their walking/jogging exercise area. 780-meters or a little less than 1/2-mile under water. The halfway point is marked with a line and some signs on the wall and floor. My casual walk took me about 9 minutes one way. On the Kyushu side, the shore bank has cement sitting areas to accommodate dozens of folks who want to vege out, relax and watch the 700+ ships passing by daily and also the 4 daily changes in tides. This place is the narrowest part of the strait so the tide change it so swift, it looks like a river flowing.

Refreshing to observe a revived sea port into a fresh tourist attraction with flair. Strangely European within the outskirts of Kyushu, nonetheless, a display of sea port scenery, buildings and cuisine. I look forward to additional development in the near future.
We visited on a cold, sunny day and it was a great change of scenery from Fukuoka downtown. We found an excellent sushi restaurant. There was plenty of street eats where you can munch as you stroll.
Location is stone throw from the train station, quick and easy access. In addition, there were rickshaws, same as those in Kyoto, suited for couples and the gentleman will definitely give you a good tour of the port.

The Kanmon Bridge is at the narrowest spot in the Kanmon Straits between Honshu and Kyushu, where there were two historical battles.
The first one was fought between Genji-clan and Heike-clan in 1185. Emperor Antoku passed away here in the Strait and Genji started the Samurai period in Kamakura.
The second one may be called Shimonoseki Campaign (Shimonoseki War), when Choshu-clan( in Yamaguchi Prefecture) was defeated by the fleet made of the 4 countries- the British Empire, USA, France and the Netherlands in 1864.
Shinsaku Takasugi who was a kind of representative of the Choshu side started to topple down the Samurai system. The first place of the movement started in Kozanji temple(nationala treasure temple) in Chofu, Shimonoseki, a few months later after the defeat in 1864. The armies led by Shinsaku Takasugi defeated the Samurais which are more than 10 times in size and scale. This became the substantial start to establish the Meiji Restoration in !868.
