Castello di Serralunga d'Alba

The castle overlooks the town and hits the visitor for his gothic architecture. It's front is made of bricks with little arches. Few the windows, and only at the top. The way in was guarded by a wide ditch, a rolling shutter and a drawbridge. Inside you can see still some fireplaces, wood ceilings and a chapel with frescoes.

A beautiful landmark with a passionate guide. Its true there is very little inside, thanks to the Spanish of 1661 but Massimiliano (sorry if I didn't spell it correctly) was so informed and passionate it was a pleasure to hear him talk. Recommended but unfortunately not open all week.

Azienda Agricola Boasso Franco - Gabutti

The Gabutti Winery was set up in the early 1970s when the BOASSO family started to make its own wine from the grapes grown in the family-owned vineyards. It was named after one of the most renowned areas of Barolo wine production; the Gabutti area was previously classified by Renato Ratti as a first-class sub-zone.The family-run company is managed by Franco BOASSO and produces wine from the grapes grown on 4.5 hectares located within the Serralunga district, in the sub-zones of Gabutti, Meriame and Margheria. Special attention is dedicated to work in the vineyards in the conviction that great wines are produced from prime quality grapes. As a result of diminishing yields, carrying out work on the vines at precisely the right time and evaluating the best moment for the vintage, the grapes are used to produce the best wines for ageing. After a traditional vinification process the wines are aged in medium-sized barrels made from new wood. The wines obtained are now exported to the main European and overseas markets, as well as throughout Italy.

Fontanafredda

We spent a lovely hour or so here when passing through. Lovely walk of the site and then some really great impromptu wine tasting with knowledgeable and welcoming staff. Would love to spend more time here next time and perhaps eat in one of the restaurants. Great pit stop if passing though or for the afternoon.
