We took a NS Sprinter train to go to Zaanse Schans (Zaandam Kogerveld station) from the Schiphol airport station. The services are very efficient, the trains are pretty clean and punctual. As a rail fan, I liked those trains in particular. The ticketing system is also very simple. If you have an OV-Chipkaart, that can be used both in NS and GVB services. Though for NS services, you have to maintain a balance of 20 EUR.

The Floating Dutchman is an amphibious bus that offers passengers with a stop over (min 4 hours) at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol the possibility to discover Amsterdam between flights. The tour takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes and starts at the airport. Once we've reached Amsterdam the bus will 'splash' into the canals for a cruise through the beautiful Amsterdam canals. Afterwards, the bus will take you back to the airport so you can continue your journey.

We had over 7hrs to kill before our flight so scoured the airport for things to do, we stumbled upon the Panorama Terrace. It was brilliant a huge space that even had an empty disused aircraft for you to board and look around. It was very windy and cold there but would imagine in the summer would be a lovely place to sit and watch the daily goings on of the airport. They are doing works to this area and when these are complete the place will be a great place to visit. They are building a new bar and restaurant which will be a great place to chill in the summer. There are picnic tables and seating areas so you can bring your own food or takeaway food from the airport outlets. I wish we still had something like this at our local airport in the UK, its great place to kill time.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol seems designed for ease of movement when transferring between flights as well as ensuring a pleasant stay (food, shopping, rest areas), even for a short transfer. Signage is clear and helpful. A great variety of food options from specialty shops (e.g. cheese) to various cuisines (e.g. sushi) and available. Shopping ranges from products from the Netherlands to international luxury goods. General seating is comfortable, and airline lounges are convenient. Small museums and displays provide intellectual stimulation. Overall Schiphol airport is easy to navigate, even when repairs and renovations are underway.

Upon my arrival, it was nice to see this landmark! It is a great way to welcome travelers to the numerous red signs, shutters, and decorations in Paris (including the red light district)!
