Charles Paddock Zoo

I am so pleased that I visited this zoo....yes to my surprise it was very small, no elephants or giraffes but seeing other animals much closer than those at larger zoos was the prize for me. My favorites seeing the Malayan Tiger relax in his pool and actually come closer to the fence when Flavia the zookeeper shared details about the tiger and the other animals. There were some of the tenants I have never seen before such as the King Vultures and Titi Monkeys. This zoo is a small gem but very valuable and important, it is accredited by the zoo association, so standards are being met and animals looked well cared for. I'll be visiting again!!!!

Ancient Peaks Winery

At the Southernmost tip of the Paso Robles AVA is this fantastic Ancient Peaks Winery worth the drive. This 10,000 acre ranch was the site Robert Mondavi had planted with special grapes for the Robert Mondavi Winery. Today these old lines are used by Ancient Peaks Winery to produce extraordinary wines. Across the street is margarita adventures which provide 2 1/2 hour tours through this huge ranch property including a zip line experience with six zip lines that meander the hills and crossover the vineyards. Truly a unique experience. The tasting room has a nice restaurant with some delicious lunch menu items. Sometimes they do dinner as well. They have a huge variety of wines of extraordinary quality. This is a place you want to take your time to go visit.

I took my masters degree in engineering from this wonderful institution. Sciences - particularly in agriculture and architecture - and engineering are Cal Poly's strong suits, but their other program are also renowned (for instance, their business school is now a rising star). The campus is very lovely and located in a medium-sized city within California's Central Coast, just minutes from the beach. It's the toughest of the CSU school to be admitted to: the students here are very smart and they work very hard. It's all worth it though!

This memorial was built with private monies raised by a local organization. No government monies were used. The community of Atascadero has great pride in this memorial. Very beautiful at night with the lights lit on the brick walk way and the military flags. This memorial will give you chills of pride.

August Ridge specializes in wines typical of northern and central Italy, including Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Primitivo, Barbera and Dolcetto. The wines tend to be robust and complex with their blends superb -- but usual only about 100 cases for each of the two primary blends! It is worth the drive through the hills to sample their wines.

Bishop Peak

Named because it resembles a bishop's hat, the highest peak of the Morros range is heavily used by hikers and bicyclists. The climb to the top will take anywhere from one to two hours depending on your fitness level.

Two trailheads: Patricia Drive trailhead has switchbacks and takes you gradually uphill with some shade from beautiful oaks. The Highland Drive trailhead puts you on a very steep, short hike to Summit Trail. We saw two hikers on hands and knees finishing it. Felsman Loop is a lovely hike on good trails. Summit trail has lots of boulders and rocks to climb over, so consider your ability to climb rocks without falling before you take this portion of the trail to the very top.

This working cattle and exotic animal ranch makes a great getaway.

Reviewed By myrosesrblue - Duarte, California

I was looking for a relaxing yet rustic outdoor experience. Lazy Arrow offered me all sorts of activities like hiking, horseback riding, camping, and my favorite exotic animal viewing. I stayed in one of the cabins on the ranch (it had a kitchen bath room with shower and comfy beds). This spot has become my official outdoor vacation spot in California. When I need to get away and have a "one-with-nature" experience as well as feel safe with access to essential (for me) amenities, Lazy Arrow provides just that. The ranchers were very friendly and hospitable.I sincerely recommend a stay at Lazy Arrow Adventures a must for those looking for an adventure. Recommend bring some good hiking boots or running shows or cowboy boots to walk around ranch and the hills. Wild flowers bloom in the spring (and I hear baby animals start popping up during the spring as well).

Soaring Hawk Vineyards

Soaring Hawk is a "nano-boutique" winery on the beautiful backroads of Santa Margarita. We offer free tastings and wine education with the winemaker and owners. Guests receive a welcoming, personal experience here and can stand at the tasting bar or can be seated at a shady table overlooking oaks and grassy meadows. We are open by appointment daily and during industry-wide event weekends. Same day appointments are often available, but we recommend you book ahead to ensure you're not disappointed.

Living in the North County of San Luis Obispo there are lots and lots of wineries to visit and taste. Soaring Hawk is unique and fabulous for 2 reasons: Owners and hosts, Joe and Jill, and the excellent wine. I'm mostly a white wine drinker, but SH has some fantastic red blends as well as one of the best Zinfandels. The tasting room is small but welcoming with a nice patio. Sometimes there is entertainment and some food prepared by Jill. It's worth the country drive to visit and taste. Open on weekends by appointment.
