This is a well-managed wetland/shorebird area, much of which is reconstructed to enhance habitat for wildlife, especially birds. There are trails and a boardwalk. Our birding tour group visited in February 2020. We had excellent views of a great variety of birds The list of more than 50 species includes the introduced California Quail, Great Grebe, Picui Ground Dove, Plumbeous Rail, Snowy-crowned and Elegant Tern, Rufous-tailed Plantcutter, Wren-like Rushbird, and Great Shrike-Tyrant. Of special interest was a Willet, perhaps Chile's first record of the Eastern variety. This is a "Don't Miss" site.
