This was a really interesting thing to do while visiting Samcheok. I wouldn't travel all the way over there just for this, but if you're in the area, this is really very cool, especially if you're traveling with a group. The rail is pretty long and there are some nice tunnels along the way, plus a short break stop to use the restroom or grab a quick refreshment. Well worth it!

The biggest lime stone cave in Korea. Its length is 6.5km and there are fantastic stalagmites, stalactites, about 10 lakes and Waterfalls. Some spots of interest include stalactites that look like the Great Wall of China and many other uniquely shaped figures.
The temp inside of the cave stands at 12-24℃ in the summer and 8-9℃ in the winter.
It was raining lightly on the day we visited. & I was actually thankful for it! If it hadn't been raining we would have walked up to the cave which was really steep! Since it was raining we took the monorail instead!
Was the kids first time ever going to a cave. They thought it was pretty neat.

Went here with a Meetup group for a bit of beach fun and snorkeling.
The views here are incredible. Just the vast ocean and the cliff decorate the lovely port.
Snorkeling was fun. The area is a bit crowded because everyone is trying to snorkel or kayak. There wasn't very many fish or anything to see, but there were tons of starfish and baby crabs.
The beach itself is nice and plain, and crowded with tourists and locals alike. The restaurants are lined up and down the beach but be wary that you may not be able to use a credit card. The town is small and local so I'm sure at some restaurants you can use a credit card but take cash for sure.

I am a person of quiet natural places! After the fast pace of Seoul this area was refreshing to the soul! We arrived September 2 so all vacationers had left! There is a wide path along the river far up into the hills that is easy to walk. We did not have time to reach the waterfall sad to say. Great rebuilt examples of Hanok homes and another traditional type with large flag stones on the roof! The local restaurant was one of the cleanest I had experienced in Korea and the food was interesting and fresh. Coming from a farm background we enjoyed experiencing harvesting of the apple crop and meeting a Korean beef animal! The people were more than helpful! While waiting for the bus to return to Seoul the village manger drove us up the windy mountain road stopping often to allow us to take photos of the surreal mountain vistas! There is bus service to the area but expect it to take time as there can be up to 1 hour wait for transfers! Good roads for car travel. Worth the visit!
It was worth it. A few days stay would give time to explore the mountain area.

What a great trip! The style of the building was a nice combination of eastern and western styles. Many kinds of exhibits made our eyes happy. It was the best museum I've ever seen!

High 1 resort can be a lot better, at least to non-Korean speaking travelers. It is possible with its high volume of local holiday customers, the management does not need to consider the experience of foreigners. Since the dedicated shuttle bus entered the resort, there were so many arrangements I found difficult to understand.
The shuttle bus stopped at the ski house which was five minutes walk from the check-in centre. If you were straight from Incheon airport, as all passengers on the bus were, you would need to ask, walk, check in, walk back, and take your luggage all the way to your apartment. If you happened to get one close to the ski house, thank God. We didn't.
The ski centre was another mystery. There were seven choices for lift passes and ski rentals, however, NOT one would cover ski all day NOR multiple day rental. It meant every skier had to return his/her gears, be they fit or not, to the rental centre after finishing the day and came back again next day, queued up at the ticket centre, chose their ski time, fill in the forms for rental, and got another pair of boot, ski and poles. The good part was that ladies got free lift passes at night when we were skiing; the bad part is that my wife tried 6 pair of boots, 3 skis (in 3 days) and topped the changing chart in my group.
That did not mean there was no space for overnight storage. There were numerous lockers at two levels at the ski centre and some skiers could rent the equipment for several days and stored them there. We were told it was a group benefit and our party of 6 was too small.
Luckily, our apartment was a whopping 190 square meter, 3 bedroom-3 bathroom suite that came with a stunning view of the surrounding Mountains. It was reasonably clean and we could cook in the apartment as there was a convenient store downstairs. But we could only find exactly 6 short glasses, 6 bowls, 6 dishes and 6 set of cutlery in the kitchen, and no cups for brushing teeth. We called for more and were told we should buy other additional things that we asked. There was no fire escape map in the apartment and no instructions in English although the management knew we could only speak English. Even though we could see the magnificent skyline and sunrise everyday, we did not feel like staying in heaven.
I cannot miss the spa incident before closing the review. There was a spa in the condo downhill and the operating hour was 8 to 8. We took the shuttle and arrived at 710pm, planning to have dinner after a 45 min soak and relaxation. We were told that the ticket to the spa has to be purchased before 7pm and there was no way to get in because the computer system for the ticket was closed at 7 even though there were still attendants at the spa and at the ticket office.
Overall speaking, the ski experience is not bad considering the resort really tries to create good ski conditions. But the place is catered more for packaged groups and locals than for self-planning tourists or families. As a first time user, I find my common sense in previous ski grounds is not applicable here. After all, I can only blame myself for expecting the resort to provide information as I would like to use it.

The structure is located inside a park by the cliff. It is a short walk from the wooden gate entrance. You have to take off you shoes to walk on the wooden floor inside the structure. The view is so so but the structure is pretty.

I'm not sure what made them repaint the building to resemble a large cake, but it makes it easy to find. Centered in a county with a large number of caves, this is a cave neophyte's introduction to the underground. They run a small Planetarium style theatre on the top floor which shows a korean cave movie every hour or so, but it seems to cut out in the middle which was strange. The lower three floors have small areas dedicated to cave history, representations in popular media, cave vandalism, biology, structure and other aspects. Nothing too detailed. The center of the building is actually hollow and has a three story cave room carved into the walls. You can see the whole place in about 30 minutes, including 10 minutes of video, and for 3000 won is a good way to start the day if you plan to go to Hwansangul or Daegongul caves later in the day. Some of the exhibits are falling apart (the science area) but it's not terrible at all.
