Sambalpur ( Sambalpur (help·info)) is located in the western part of Odisha, and is one of the largest and oldest cities in the state. It is the headquarters of Northern Revenue Division and of Mahanadi Coalfield Limited (MCL). It is situated about 300 km (190 mi) west of the state capital Bhubaneswar, 550 km (340 mi) west of Kolkata in West Bengal and 278 km (173 mi) east of Raipur in Chhattisgarh. It is on the bank of the Mahanadi River.

Looks great!
There are towers to view the dam, lake, river at the same time on the both sides, west and east.
When I visited, east side tower and the surrounding area was closed for maintenance.
Then, the view from the west side tower was awesome.
Look at that.
On the westside of the tower, a monument for the memory of people who lost their life during the construction.
On the east side, there is a statue and plates to honour the engineers.

Maa Ghanteshwari temple is of Sambalpur city in Orissa. As the name suggests there are bells everywhere. People offer bells to goddess Ghanteswari or the Deity of Bells, after fulfillment of their wishes. A large number of pilgrims from across the country visit the temple. It is known as the 'lighthouse without light', built by the early sailors, for whom the bells served as warning against heavy winds. The special significance of this place lies in the great number of small bells hanging all around.
Maa Ghanteshwari Temple is situated 33 kilometres southwest of Sambalpur on the bank of Mahanadi River. The Chipilima Hydro Powerplant (CHEP) is located near the temple on the same river bank.

Previously had an opportunity to visit pisa tower florance Italy.Shiv Temple of Huma, Sambalpur is like pisa tower leaning sideways.you can not decide whether it is a artitechial brilliance or gravitational disorders whatever it maybe it is worth visiting. Located at a distance of 25km from sambalpur ,by the side of River Mohanadi the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is a beautiful site for tourists &devotees. The water is transparent &fishes can be watched from the shore.Also you will find Golden fish with nose ring like head here.

Samaleswari Temple is a Hindu temple in Sambalpur.It is dedicated to the goddess known as 'Maa'. Natives call the godess as samalei maa.The temple is situated On the bank of the river Mahanadi . Goddess Samaleswari is worshipped from ancient times as Jagatjanani, Adishakti, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati. Sambalpur region is popularly known as Hirakhanda from ancient times. Eleven parswa devis (side Goddess), are embedded on the outer wall of the sanctum, so that the devotees can worship those deities during parikarma .

This is a mini zoo in which about 300 visitors visit everyday and the number reaches to 1000 on Sundays. Large number of visitors come here specially during November to March.It is located on the suburbs of Sambalpur. There are four horned antelopes, Barking deer, leopard, ratel, monkey, sloth bear, civet, python, parakeet, peacocks and many other are spotted here. Besides the zoo there are several kind of flowers planted in the garden.Specially children enjoy very well here.

Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary in Bargarh district of Odisha.
Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is an important site for conservation of wildlife and its habitat . It is home for over 40 species of mammals, 234 species of birds, 41 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians, 42 species of fishes, 39 species of odonates, 85 species of butterflies and 38 species of spiders. It is extremely important in the national context because of significant population of many species like Leopard, Indian Gaur and Four-horned Antelope. The sanctuary is fringed on the east and north by the huge man-made water body of Hirakud Reservoir, thus forming one of the select few sanctuaries in the state supporting both terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity.

Budharaja temple is situated in Sambalpur on the top of the hill.Here lord Shiva is worshipped.A concrete road goes to the temple from the base.The scenetic view from the temple looks very attractive.From here we can see the town which looks very nice.
Natural beauty of the surrounding attract the tourists towards the temple.

I like the waterfall as it is three step water fall , within a very peacefull environment , the ambience is perfect for the family members to like females and childrens
