We toured the lake on the SS Katahdin and really enjoyed a few hours on the water. It's a pretty lake with a lot of history. We went as far as Sugar Island before turning back.

The golf course on Mt. Kineo is unique. The park trails etc. have a good variety of difficulty. Awesome views! The snack bar in the club house is just that. Snacks and a few sandwiches. Pricey but good. When we were visiting, the young gal working there really needs to smile and be sociable to guests. She doesn't interact with customers, as in, says nothing, The man behind the counter is pleasant and very busy. The shuttle is fun, quick, and runs often. We had a good time!

We went here one afternoon just to walk around and visit the small playground. We were by the water and it was pretty cold. My grandkids played in the playground for a bit. I think this would be nice to bring your grill (they do have some there too) and just kick back by the water, enjoy the scenery and eat lunch or dinner.
It cost a few bucks to get in and that fee helps support the park.

We visit Maine to hit the ATV trails. The B52 site is a great ride to learn a bit of local history. The site is somber and at the same time amazing. It's amazing that this site has been so greatly preserved for such a long period of time. This is our second year visiting the site to pay our respects.

We are experienced hikers but I started out with a sore knee and this hike didn't help. My fault. Walking sticks really help in many spots. We did the whole loop, took about 5-6 hrs with stops along the way. Made a mistake in taking our Lab along, thinking the trail would be milder and she would enjoy the chance for swims. This is rough hike for a dog as there are many spots where she had to be helped up or down rocky areas.

Central Maine is about hiking, birds, Moose, and beautiful forests. We drove to Rockwood, enjoying the sights along the rural roads. The trailhead was easy to find. The area is a preserve curated by the Maine Audubon Society. We hiked the 3.5 miles through the woods to the Welcome Center. The center had all sorts of educational and historical displays. The keeper was friendly and we enjoyed talking with him. The nearby lake was very scenic. We took the easy way back to the car, following a smooth access dirt road.
It was a very enjoyable hike,and we finished the morning with a great lunch in nearby Monson.

To resume quickly, Mt Kineo Golf Course is located on Mount Kineo, Moosehead Lake and is thought to be the second oldest course in New England, built in the 1880's. The course was built along side of the Kineo House, which at one time was the largest inland waterfront hotel in America.The hotel is long since gone but the beauty of the island remains with Mount Kineo as the centerpiece, rising 1798 feet above the shores of Moosehead Lake from it's summit.
This course offers breathtaking views, challenging golf holes and a friendly environment. Every one of the staff working at the golf course are dedicated and passionate about their work. You can see they put their time and energy into making this place what it has become. No tee time and no dress code. This golf course is perfect for a summer afternoon with friends or with family!
