We are open to the public for educational guided tours and walkabout self-guided tours. Tiger World is a different kind of Zoo. Our tours personally guide visitors throughout the preserve learning about each animal. You see them in a natural setting and have the opportunity to observe them playing, swimming, eating, sleeping, and interacting with their handlers.

This is NOT a zoo. These are rescued/donated wild animals. They are magnificent creatures. Our daughters love big cats. They have a lot of tigers, lions, some ligers as well as other animals (bear, gibbons, baboon s, kangaroo, wolves, etc.) You can't get really close to them (except through glass) they are still "wild"-- don't expect to have your pic taken with a tiger. It was really hot when we visited, so most of the animals were trying to stay cool in the shade-- one tiger was chilling in a big tub of water. The gibbons were talky.
They sell cups of mixed feed. We bought 3. The ducks geese, and peacocks KNOW the cups. They will follow you and come right up to you. My o e daughter got freaked out because they were swarming around d her. Don't try to hand feed them! We let the peacocks peck right from the bucket. There were swans on lots of turtles in the pond. Don't forget to feed the turtles too! Don't buy the feed if you don't want a feathery entourage!!!
I liked the serval. I don't think it had enough space though and didn't get as much attention as it deserved.
Don't wear you "good" shoes, there is a lot of goose poop around the pond area.

For family-oriented outdoor recreation, it’s hard to find anything better than Dan Nicholas Park, located eight miles southeast of Salisbury. The focal point of the 425-acre park is the 10-acre lake, and paddle boats are available for rent. The old-fashioned Haden’s Carousel puts smiles on the faces of kids and parents alike, as does the 1950's-era miniature train. In addition to these attractions, the park also features a nature center, petting barn, and gem mine. If you need still more to do, the park offers camping, fishing, walking trails, and picnic facilities, as well as tennis courts, four ball fields and two miniature golf courses. Dan Nicholas Park is located at 6800 Bringle Ferry Road. Hours are dawn to dusk daily. Admission is free, with nominal charges for paddle boats and train and carousel rides.

This museum is not always open but has special events that feature period crafts, food and historical materials. The house, which was built in the 1860s as a plantation home has been restored to it's period features and furniture. The same restorer who helped restore Old Salem Village in Winston-Salem worked on this project. It is owned by the Rowan County museum which is located in Salisbury, NC... the Old Stone House is south of Salisbury off Hwy. 52 and is actually located in Granite Quarry, NC. We attended a colonial Christmas celebration held over the weekend after Christmas. This is an annual event. It featured volunteers in period costumes who told the history of each room in the house, cooked some traditional food that you could sample outside over an open fire. There was also period music, weaving, hunting and black powder gun demos, candle making and a vendor booth where herbs, spices and historical books could be purchased.

So much to see and do, we spent over 3 hours there and we really didn’t see it all. Train ride was a little disappointing as it was pretty short but there is so much more to see. Round house tour as really great. So many trains to go into and see the history. Lots of old / antique restored cars, trucks to see. Wright brothers plane... great museum. Also interesting info on Piedmont Airlines. Lots of volunteers working which was also great to see.

You will be pleasantly surprised by great wines and craft brewing here at Morgan Ridge. Sit inside or outside, dog friendly, great food, and one beautiful place to sit and relax. I love coming here with my husband, beautiful views and friendly staff top it all off. You will enjoy a trip to Morgan Ridge.

Southern Grace Distilleries at Mt. Pleasant Prison is the first distillery in the US to be located in a former prison. Tours include whiskey tasting and are available by appointment Monday-Saturday by appointment. It is located just outside Concord, NC and is about 25 minutes from Charlotte, NC.

My husband and I recently toured this great gem of a distillery. It is located inside a former prison. Our guide was very informative of the goings on at the prison before it became the distillery - lots of crazy stories. Heard there are ghosts...MoreThank you for coming to see us!

If you're a history buff this place is for you! This is a small historic village. Many parts stand as they did back in 1845! The jail was unbelievable! Most of what is here is within walking distance. There is one restaurant and one bakery. The bakery offered us samples. Prices are very reasonable throughout the shops. There are several gift shops, artisan type places and two general stores which sell ice cream, soda, candy and antiques. The website lists weeks when they have special events. The day we were here they had free trolley tours which made a round trip to a local winery.They were also serving free watermelon. There are two public restroom areas and plenty of places for a picknick. They do have one pavilion that you can rent for events.

This old national cemetery is nicely maintained and it is interesting to wal around reading the stones of mostly men who died in the civil war.

This is a tasting room and gift shop downtown Gold Hill. We tasted some amazing beer while we were here and decided we just had to buy a growler to bring home. We sat on their patio and enjoyed the good beer and weather. The lady working in there was very nice and had lots of knowledge about their beers and wines. They are also in charge of renting an adorable cottage behind the store if you want to stay in the area more than one day.
