We visited two sections during our stay on the Oregon coast. The first stop was the south jetty located minutes from downtown Florence. We enjoyed watching dozens of harbor seals frolicking in the water. We also walked out on the jetty where several people were catching mostly juvenile Dungeness crabs. The other section we visited was an overlook where there were 3 viewing decks that provided us with a quick overview of the massive dunes.

This wasn't a tourist gift shop but a proper gallery with a good selection of sculpture, ceramics, textile art, photography and some smaller jewellery pieces. The owner-artist is knowledgeable and can tell you about each one of the artists represented. While somewhat influenced by its coastal location (gorgeous kelp wall-hangings and really fun duck sculptures), this is a well-rounded gallery with plenty to interest. I highly recommend this if you are passing through on the coastal route.

Not all of the Oregon Coast lighthouses are accessible, but this one is. We parked across the road and took about 15 steps to stand beside it (all flat ground.) This is the second lighthouse to occupy the spot, standing 65' tall on an elevation of 165' above the river and shore. It was built in 1894 and is nearly identical to the HECITA Lighthouse; however, this one emits a distinctive red and white flash. It's maintained by the US Coastguard. Pretty views. Free!

I really cannot understand the negative comments here. This is a stretch of land where elks live. Some days they will be close to the road, some days not. The facilities are excellent and the binoculars free. Try going to Buckingham Palace and complaining you saw no royalty!

We were driving up the Oregon coastline...we came across absolutely breathtaking sand dunes that went for miles & miles! We found a cute little town to stay nearby and Ridin' Dirty was across the street. Family owned, very friendly and personable. They have pride in their equipment and they're very accommodating! They bring the toys to you right at the staging area which is only 1.7 miles away! Good prices and good sand toys!

Highway 38 is one of the many Oregon roads that access the coast from the Willamette Valley. The junction at the 5 is south of Cottage Grove and 38 winds its way through the little towns of Drain and Elkton before terminating downtown Reedsport. While traveling this road from the 5 to Elkton, you are traveling through pasture and forest land. West of Elkton, the road follows the Umpqua River bordered on both sides by forested lands, which afford great views of the river. If you are looking to travel from the valley to the coast, I recommend the 38 over the 126 or 42.
***Warning*** be aware of deer and elk in this area, as they have to cross the road to get to the river.

The Oyster Farm is located within a Triangle formed by the South Jetty and another jetty to close the triangle. The best view of the operation is from the wayside located off of Highway 101 just above the Umpqua lighthouse. Their retail store and shucking operation is located in the town of Winchester Bay.

Fun for the whole family! Hike the natural history and learn about the plants and animals of tidewater country. Slide into the bear den and visit a weather station. Then you will travel back in time to learn about the early Kuuich tribe, days of early logging, and visit a tidewater town.

You should not visit with little children. The gift shop is too enticing and located right at the front door. Not enough hands-on displays.

This gallery has everything in Myrtle wood. Specific wood for the southern Oregon coast. Hardwood which is very very beautiful. Many colors and different grain patterns. Wood workers work on the spot and make heirloom quality wood turnings, gifts and furniture. Amazing work. It's definitely worth a trip if you are in Reedsport! Quality workmanship!!
