Sacramento River Bend Area

This area of the Sacramento River is a hidden jewel. There are usually very few people, especially in the morning. Our favorites are the pristine Perry Riffle area and the Bend. Lots of great places for picnicking, too. The quietness is amazing, sometimes there's only a handful of people around. Take a walk, grab a book or sit along the banks of the mighty Sacramento. The River will transform you!

William B. Ide Adobe SHP

We arrived late Sunday morning and walked up to the Adobe. Found out that the visitors center was closed due to lack of staffing even though it was supposed to be open and we had planned our visit accordingly. As it turns out, you can tour this site on your own. They have brochures for the historic buildings and the heritage garden. We read over the brochures and then viewed all the buildings. We then took a little hike on the property and got great views and photos of the river and the birds. This site is well worth visiting, and I will remember it. It is a little bit different than the standard historical home tour, combining history with nature in just the right combination. Note: Although the park is free, it costs $5 to park, even if the visitor's center is unattended. There is an honor system to pay for the parking, and you display a permit on your dashboard.
