Canal Area Tackle Shop "CATS" rents canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, and fishing boats. We also rent bicycles including adult trikes, all our bikes are multi-speed. "CATS" rents camping equipment, tents, sleeping bags, mats, cots, and air mattresses. We also have cooking utensils, grills, stoves, lanterns and all other camping equipment. "CATS" has live bait including minnows and night crawlers. We stock over 140 types of catfish bait. We have a huge selection of soft plastic lures and jigs. "CATS" has bobbers, floats, sinkers, hooks and line. Check out all our fishing equipment and tackle, "CATS" has firewood and we will deliver for a small fee.

Affordable, good selection of hybrid bikes and others, and Tom's staff will deliver. We stayed at a local B&B, and the guys will drop off and pick up the rentals.

The Tiskilwa Historical Society is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to preserving, displaying, and interpreting our local history. Our Museum on Main offers six galleries of a hands-on experience with Tiskilwa's colorful past: Native American artifacts, village, military and school memorabilia, Hennepin Canal construction photos, old farm implements, early domestic items, railroads, churches, toys of the past, and quite a bit more. Open Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. To 2:00 p.m., or by appointment.

My 90 year old Mom and I were asked by members of the Society to do our program on Aprons and my Mom's collection. We could not have been happier for saying yes!! We were treated with graciousness, friendship and the interest of all those I attendance! And we LOVED the building and they history it is saving! You will learn about about Buruea County and Tiskilwa if you make the detour to go thru this amazing museum!!

What a great spot to take our grandson. There's a little park by the bridge, and also a place to park your car and walk across it from either direction.
I appreciate it when a community embraces it's history, while enjoying and staying vital.
I appreciated the sign over it which showed how the bridges were used in "days gone by."
It only takes a few minutes or enjoy a picnic.
No bells and whistles - it's a bridge and park that are both used today. Slow down and enjoy the simple joy of a quiet day!

Beetz Me! Is within a must see building that was formerly a hardware store and built around 1850. Inside you will find an original tin ceiling and wood floor . Built in bins and shelving abound with unique displays filled with unusual finds. Walk towards the back you'll find imported wines from around the world and a wine tasting studio. In the warm months there's a veranda to sit and sip your wine. The first Friday of every month we are open until 8:00 pm

If you didn't know that the Captain Swift Covered Bridge was built in 2006, nearly 50 years after some of the most famous and celebrated covered bridges in the eastern United States, you'd swear it was an original. Located one mile west of Princeton at 1600 North Epperson Road in Bureau County, it isn't as popular as the older Red Covered Bridge nearby. But it is unique to covered bridges of the past that were designed for limited use of horse-and-buggy traffic and are impractical today. Captain Swift Covered Bridge has two lanes and is built to modern highway standards. Made entirely out of wood, it is the only two-lane covered bridge in Illinois. It derives its strength from its burr arch design, an idea patented by Theodore Burr of New York in 1804. Using 1800s concepts, the bridge has a vertical clearance of 16 feet, three inches. It also has a 28-foot minimum roadway width and a 128-foot span over the Big Bureau Creek. With an outer skin of Douglas Fir, the bridge will age to a lovely chocolate brown and the attractive natural color will make painting unnecessary. Some local taxpayers are critical of the bridge, arguing that it isn't historical, that the money could have been better spent. One suggestion from somebody who admires covered bridges: Build a park so locals and tourists can picnic on a hot summer day.

What a wonderful addition to Princeton. Every time I visit I end up purchasing something (usually for my daughter). Clothes are fun but I especially love their choice of accessories. Great staff, ever changing inventory and convenient hours of operation.

Interesting tour of the Lovejoy Homestead. Owen Lovejoy, an abolitionist, lived in this house. It was a depot on the Underground Railroad. Lovejoy, a minister, used the pulpit to further the abolitionist cause and believed that slavery could be abolished through political action. Lovejoy used his home to harbor slaves on their way north and faced prosecution several times. This site alone may not be worth a day trip to Princeton but is an excellent addition when combined with the Bureau County Historical Society Museum and Library also located in Princeton.

While passing through Princeton saw this huge monument right in the middle of the city square. While dedicated to the soldiers and sailors of the county it's main focus is the civil war with a few statues on top of the monument and names engraved on the sides. There is a small locked chamber inside displaying a American flag and a wreath. Very cool and solemn at the same time

First off this is the sweetest name for a children's boutique and it carries thru the rest of the adorable store. You will find adorable moderate to high end and high quality items for gifts and your own kiddos here. All the big names in children's wear from high end to play clothes provide a many selections for your choosing. Perfect for family photos or the first day of school. Your kids will stand out in the high end items or can wear the others for play! My son loves the soft clothes from tea collection and the prices are reasonable plus they last thru him playing hours on end on his knees!

New owners and completely remodeled. The bar area is now separate from the lanes. No more kids running around while you are trying to watch the game. With BIG SCREEN TV's all over the place, you won't miss a minute of any game. Some of the coldest beer in town too. Bring the whole family for a day of bowing or go into the new bar and watch the game, play darts, pool or play the machines. You don't have to spend a lot, to have a lot of fun! The banquet room is now open for parties, birthday's or any gathering! Ask about the bowling & pizza package!
