The Book Shop

We love bookstores and this is right at the top of the heap. Mostly used books and also an interesting collection of dvds to rent. The thing i liked most was that they had a good selection of geology books of the Okanogan. and southern B.C. new. And, with purchases over some amount - $100 in our case - you get a nice bag to take your books home in. Also a cool erotica section and a tucked away cupboard with collectible old sci fi (right across from the front desk)
Almost as good as Powells in Portland and that's saying something because Powell's is the closest thing to perfection.

We stopped into Ruby Blues as a part of a wine tour through the Naramata Bench, it was a highlight of the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a great story teller throughout the tasting, he was a treat in comparison to some of the more bland tastings at other nearby wineries. I highly recommend the bubbly rose!

Upper Bench Estate Winery

Situated in Penticton, at the gateway to the picturesque Naramata Bench, Upper Bench offers a unique experience to locals and visitors by offering pairings of their two passions: artisan wine and hand-crafted cheese. Winemaker Gavin Miller believes great wine is made in the vineyard and farms sustainably, with out the use of chemicals or pesticides. Upper Bench produces big bold reds and crisp dry whites. All of Upper Bench's wines come from the mature vines on Upper Bench's unique seven-acre vineyard and a select few other vineyards along the Naramata Bench. Cheesemaker Shana Miller continues to create her unique and highly sought-after hand crafted artisan cheeses in her on site, CFIA registered state of the art creamery. She now has seven delectable cheeses in her aging rooms: U&Brie, Gold, Gold French, Gold Italian, Okanagan Sun, Grey Baby and a stilton style blue named King Cole. Come and watch Shana hand-craft her cheeses through the creamery window, speak to Gavin about his award-winning wines and latest releases, and enjoy a wine flight perfectly paired with one of our cheese platters on our sunny Naramata Bench patio. We are located just 2 minutes from downtown Penticton and are open all year round (except Christmas Holidays). Please check our website for our hours of operation.

We are located on the beautiful Naramata Bench in the heart of the Okanangan Valley. At LA FRENZ, we believe the quality in the bottle begins in the vineyard. Cutting edge and meticulous vineyard practices are used in combination with varieties tailored to the unique soils and micro climates of our vineyard sites to produce the vibrant and intense grape characters found only in the Okanagan Valley. Chris helped us with the wine tasting and he was brilliant: very knowledgeable and engaging. We don't generally like Chardonnay but this we have to admit we did. The Merlot was excellent and their reserve wines at $45 a bottle are a bargain.Hi Moniaits, Thank you for your great comments on the experience and the wine. It's particularly pleasing coming from an international perspective and I agree our wines are literally bargains. Thank you! Jeff Martin- Owner
