After 15 years of visiting and living in Galicia, went to the Springs for the first time and loved it. Should have gone many times before... They are not easy to find with Google Maps, look for the "aparcamiento termas de Outariz", which will take you to the free dirt parking, from there it is a short walk to the bridge over the river, where the Springs are.

Lovely church but in the evenings on the steps and in the plaza below there has been local entertainment every night we have been here. Local communities coming in to play music and do folk dances.

Planned to just visit the Cathedral to say some prayer but we are told that we have to pay to enter (they said locals don't have to pay)... We had no time for the complete tour so we decided not to enter... The woman just let me in as I said I wanted to pray. I had a chance to have a glimpse to the main altar... Next time I will make sure to have time to do the tour.

This is average within the context of it not being anything unique or exceptional. The town itself has some nice local shops and restaurants (technically we only ate at one of them). But the old town itself is relatively small compared with towns like Oviedo and Leon.
The tourist train/tram to and from the thermal baths lets off in Plaza Mayor.
In general we were disappointed with our stay in Ourense because the thermal baths weren't hot enough. The Plaza Mayor or old part of Ourense is not enough to warrant going out of your way for a visit. However, if you need to get from the Atlantic Coast to Leon or Oviedo, then Oursense was a reasonable transit stop with some activities and a restaurant we enjoyed.

Ourense's old town is quite lovely but really not that much stands out in comparison to any other old town in Galicia. However, this cloister is just amazing. The only thing left is the colonnaded courtyard, but it is just amazing. It is really the best thing to see in Ourense -- just a little out of the way.
It is free and just a short walk up some steps and steep streets from the Plaza de Trigo and the Cathedral.

It's a small museum with pannels explaining the history and functioninng of the thermae. It contains a copy of a roman camafeo found there, as well as part of the old roman therma.
It's not really a great museum as such, but since it is located just next to one of the Burgas thermal baths, it's a nice place to walk around before/after staying in the water.

If you have an interest in archaeology, especially the Celtic period of Western Europe, this place is definitely worth a visit. The is an extensive hill town that has been preserved. It is very close to Ourense, although a bit hard to find. Unfortunately, the website is all in Galician (not even in Spanish) so good luck understanding how to get there without Google's translator. The same is true of the very good museum, which makes it hard to get a lot out of.
Of course, due to the nature of the site, it isn't very accessible to those with limited mobility.
