Korta Katarina Winery

We love French and Italian wines, but knew next to nothing about Croatian wines. Anna at Korta Katharina was so nice and helpful in sharing information about the different Croatian grapes, where they grow best, and how they match up with the food if the area. Anna also provided us with literature about Croatian grapes. We loved the crisp, dry refreshing taste of their Zinfandel/Plavic Mali blended Rosé. And their red blend (2011 or 2013 I don't remember) was another delight for us. Nice blackberry and fig fruit with a touch of vanilla, very nice! Having grown up as children in Minnesota, it was fun to learn that the owners, Lee and Penny Anderson, were business people from this wonderful state. This was a great place to visit and easy walk from Orebic.

This is a challenging review to put up. We were completely satisfied with our wine tour--our guide was knowledgeable and approachable, the winery and cellar were beautiful, and it was encouraging to see a progressive spectrum of the Croatian wine industry. That said, the wine pairing dinner left us demanding for more. For USD100 per person, we think it's an absolutely fair price to ask for in terms of quantity (we were fed sufficiently and the wine glasses were refilled upon request), but the quality was just not quite there yet.
Given that we were both extensively experienced in high-level dining, only two dishes out of six appealed to us. The wines were extremely refined, structured, and well done, but again it left a lot more to be imagined. Having tasted quite many of Michel Rolland's impressive results, the wines from Saints Hills exhibit potential but clearly haven't found their own terroir expression.
Final thought is: visit this place for the sake of checking off something on your to-do list, but if you are looking for one of the best wines of Croatia, we're being completely presumptuous but confident that as of 2016, Saints Hills is not quite there yet. That said, we will visit again whenever we come back in the near future. This is a place that shows high potential and top-notch facilities to make good wines. To top it all off, all the staff we met at the wineries were amazingly helpful and welcoming.

Matusko Winery

Peninsula Peljesac, the oasis of black wines, has been visited by many tourists and lovers of good drops in recent years. Walking along the Peljesac landscapes, the unavoidable destinations are the vineyards, taverns and wineries that are all connected to each other accidentally or intentionally. However, one of them is distinguished by its quality, knowledge and perseverance. From a small wine cellar visited by a small number of tourists, Winery MATUSKO in Potomja is transformed into one of the largest and most famous destination of winemakers from all over the world where Wine expert Mato Violic Matusko, presents and offers top quality autonomous wines from the Peljesac region and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. At the winery Matusko there are currently thirteen wine labels, six of which are quality, one sparkling wine, one archive and five top wines. Visiting this winery remains an everlasting experience that will be restored again with each glass of Matusko wine.

Last year my girlfriend and I were in Viganj, and wanted to do our first steps in kitesurfing. The school is small and not so "glamorous", but we chose it because the instructors seemed really nice and friendly. And it stayed that way during the whole course. Motivating instructors, who realy know every little step you shuld do to get up on the board. We are planning to come back again this year and to get our skills to the next level.
