10 Things to Do in O Grove That You Shouldn't Miss

November 28, 2017 Darwin Bolte

Mingle with cheerful fishermen in the pleasant village of O Grove. Wide, soft sand beaches meet exquisite and clean waters on this Spanish peninsula, which are as celebrated for their fruitful fish bounty as they are their beauty. Unsurprisingly, O Grove holds an epic annual seafood festival in October, where you can savor sinfully fresh shellfish while you pay homage to the gods of the sea.

Strange weather today, a low cloud descended and stayed til late afternoon, so we decided this walk would be good to do as it was still warm. What a treat! A gentle relaxing stroll with stunning scenery. And a couple of good cafes to get a drink and rest our feet. I bet this would be great for lunch too!

If visiting La Toja make a quick stop to visit this small chapel, characteristically distinct because of the shells covering every wall. Inside there are some saints images, among them the almost unknown San Caralampio, one of the protector patrons of the area because of its restorative health effects. If available you can also buy stamps with prayers. Besides the views and hotels, one of the interesting spots in the island.

The ruins look truly beautiful. I've visited it with my family on a rainy day and the scene is indescribable, with the old ruins and many tombs. I wouldn't bring kids there because they wouldn't understand the deep meaning within the mossy rocks and tombs. It gets better if you read the ruins' history while there.
Anyhow, worth for stopping by if you have anything to do nearby, otherwise the visit turns out to be too short. Also good if you seek silence and reflection.

We got a map from our hotel that included a guided walk in the old city. We did that and it is something that we recommend that you do if you visit this city. The walk was about 2 hours and gave us a perfect picture of this medieval part of Pontevedra.

This is a really lovely to beach to walk along. It gets busy in good weather, especially at weekends, but it feels a bit like it is part of a nature reserve as there are very few buildings on the sea front. Good Surfing waves. This is not the med!

Lovely attractive coastal town with lots of shops, bars and restaurants and while walking through the streets you find the imposing Plaza de Fefinans with its Church and fortified palace. This is a centre for buying some good wine of the region and a well known wine producer is situated on the square.
Good place to sit and while away a few moments with a drink.....
Some good car parking is located not too far away....but like any other coastal town in the Summer months can get busy.

Fantastic experience and 1st class hosting by Carlos and Retha. The food at every stop was a Spanish feast. Everyone can do this, you don't need to be fit or young, but you will be a whole lot stronger by the end. Many stops along the way to enjoy the sights, Beaches and local festivities.
So worth while!

I've been privileged to have seen some fantastic Beaches in different countries and must say this area delivers. Fantastic azure blue water, very clean Beaches and trees so you can have a choice of shade or no shade. Some of the Beaches are small with rock formations and look quite spectacular. Clean public toilet areas, small restaurants and beach kiosks ... loved it.
