Chabowka Rolling-Stock Heritage Park Skansen

Reviewed By endrju_74 - Ipswich, United Kingdom

This could be a great attraction, if they only wanted to invest a bit more... Located in Chabówka, on popular route from Kraków to Polish high Mountains, it's hughely overlooked by tourists, who basically just go over it on the main route overpass. And the entrance to this open air museum is right underneath the overpass. Small car park at the front, without marked bays, means cars are more abandoned there, than parked up. Tickets in a small wooden hut. Right behind it - a loco with one passanger carriage - meant to be a restaurant with some refreshements - closed when we were there. And then it's only locos and carriages in large numbers, stacked one by one on parallel tracks. It was raining a bit when we were there, so access to some trains was not that pleasant, as there's no paths, only grass, very wet indeed. How nice it would be to have paved paths reaching every exhibit... Most of those exhibits got new looking boards with description. There's a heritage train departing twice a day on weekends, reaching Kasina Wielka station after about an hours ride. Train departs from a platform next to a central square, a platform that looks like it's falling appart... And the central square, a place for events, is all grassed again, so when it rains - you will not enjoy any events with wet shoes...

Thermal hot water filled pools with no roof and snowing weather - one does not put these two together to be enjoyed. Think again - it is real fun and fantastic experience, especially if one can enjoy at the same time some good drinks, has a possibility to eat a really good meal and have some fun in saunas. It is really worth to visit even in winter.

Rozebrano go pod koniec XIX wieku i postawiono nowy, murowany, neogotycki kościół. W środku ołtarz ze słynącą z cudów figurą Matki Bożej Ludźmierskiej (600 lat, 125 cm). Wokół sanktuarium wypielęgnowany ogród a w nim m. in zadaszony ołtarz polowy, brama wiary z dzwonem, cudowne źródełko, nietypowy- klęczący pomnik Jana Pawła II. Obok sanktuarium duży parking, jadłodajnia, dom pielgrzyma, plebania, sklepik. Warto tu przyjechać.

We were here with friends this week (march 17). Great little spot to learn to ski or just practice. There were no queues as previously mentioned. We had fresh snow along with the artificial snow which is made overnight. The ski pass and ski equipment prices are so reasonable - Its not the Alps but it is soooo much cheaper. Good for little ones too. Nice restaurant at the top. Ski lift takes you up and down, for those not wanting to ski.

Archangel Michael's Church

Old church made of wood, old from 15th century, never destroyed, and part of the road of ancient wooden architecture in Little-Poland (South of Cracow)

Reviewed By singhasam - Weymouth, United Kingdom

THIS entire church was built of larchwood in the middle of the 15th century.
No flash photography is permitted inside because the interior houses many coloured works of art which have kept their original clarity despite the passage of more than 500 years.
Just finding it would have been beyond me as a solo tourist, but our main tour included this tiny tucked away site as an interesting extra.
And very interesting it was too because the high altar had a wonderful triptych dating back more than 400 years while a beautiful crucifix on the rood screen is believed to date back to 1380.
One particular point of interest highlighted for us was a curious glockenspiel on the stairs of the high altar which was made in the 15th century and used instead of bells while a mass is said. Its thinner bar prodcues low notes and the thicker one high notes which is against the law of physics!
A fascinating place and well worth a visit if you get the chance.

The terma Szaflary is a combination of thermal bath and aqua park. We visited two different termas: Szaflary and Bialka within the same week in June. We were impressed by their popularity, especially within families with children. Both facilities (Białka and Szaflary) are very modern and offer the similar prices. However, the Białka is a bit cheaper, and offers the senior discount at the age of sixty (Szaflary at sixty five). For details see each terma’s website. Both termas have an electronic key system ~ the key assigned to you, to secure your locker, and/or to buy in-house drinks or food. Also, both have the quiet quarters (extra fee) and sounarium (extra fee).
We liked Białka more than Szaflary because it has more advanced facilities. Especially, we missed the “wild river” facilities of Bialka.
The contest of the mineral water is easily found on termas websites. Per our observation, the Szaflary water has much more sulfur, because our silver rings got dark there.
