Sugarbush Resort

Sugarbush Resort is located in the historic Mad River Valley of Vermont. With two mountains, sixteen lifts, one hundred and eleven trails, three terrain parks, and the 2,000-acre Slide Brook Basin, there is no question that Sugarbush is one of New England’s largest ski areas. Amenities include multiple base lodges, equipment rentals, ski/ride instruction, lodging, restaurants, and retail.

For starters, the weather and snow conditions were literally perfect during my most recent visit, so please take that into consideration. Every trail and every lift was open and the longest liftline was under 10 minutes (at Castlerock double, nonetheless).
Like so many ski trips, the weather and snow conditions can make it or break it, so this trip was perfect since the sun was out, temps were in the 20s and every trail was covered in snow, including natural snow trails.
The diversity of terrain here is great, with plenty of blue cruisers, some groomed blacks and plenty of bump runs too. There's not a lot of green runs but a good little learning area at South and a nice lower mountain lift at North too.
The lift network is great, with several high-speed quads that allow you to do a lot of runs. This is really one of the top 4 ski resorts in the east, hands down.

Mad River Glen

Popular Vermont ski area and New England's best ski buy.

It was crowded when we went on a Saturday after receiving 2 ft of snow, but it was worth it. The parking attendants are fabulous. They will will find spots where you think none exist. The lift lines were a little long, but it was worth the wait. Trails for all ability levels. Skiers dressed in costumes made it entertaining. It's an old school mountain with lots of charm.

Hope Cemetery

I've always loved historic New England cemeteries, with tombstones dating back centuries. Hope Cemetery isn't quite that old, but the iconic sculptures place it in its own category. One could spend a few hours looking at these sculptures and reading the epitaphs. There are also several mausoleums and columbaria, and most the mausoleums have stained glass. The Vandetti mausoleum with its stained glass depiction of the Last Supper was my favorite. I did a 60-mile detour just to see this during a foliage-viewing road trip, and it was worth every mile.

This was a very nice facility and setting out in the country. The place was clean and had a clean restroom. The staff was very good although 2 weren't quite adequate as they were quite busy. We had to frequently wait and that's when we began to notice the abundance of what we assumed were fruit flies circling our glass (lots of them!)
They explained the wines well. Their enthusiasm for their business was nice to see.
For our group of four, we were disappointed there was a lack of some sweeter wines.

What makes these bridges different is that all three are within walking distance although everyone seemed to drive. The first two when driving out of town can just about be within the same camera shot. We found the third the prettiest, with a small grassy area and a river.

Vermont State House

Gold dome building located in Montpelier.

This is one of the few, if any, state capital buildings where you can walk around by yourself (If the legislature is not in asession at the time - we visited on Saturday). However, I recommend taking the tour, which lasts about 45minutes and is very informative. Our guide was great, with numerous stories. On the tour, you can actually go into both the house and senate chambers, as well as the ceremonial governor’s office. A must do if in Montpelier.

We arrived too late in the day for a tour, but we were able to walk around and see the different colors of granite and take in the film shown in the Visitor Center. There are many interesting gifts for purchase in the Center, many of them made from granite. Would love to go back sometime and do the tour of the mining area.
